Hi there! It sounds like you have a similar problem to me. Once I make a stroke, I have to keep my pen close to my tablet otherwise I will need to manually change the brush size to be able to make another stroke, or go to the side panel with the layers like you said. I am unable to make multiple strokes without having to change the brush size every time. Are we having the same issue?

Update Krita to its current version 5.2.10. If that does not help, do the next step.
Reinstall the driver of your graphics tablet. Drivers getting defect through updates of Windows is not seldom, even the silent updates you only see in log but do not notice that they happen.
After uninstallation, do a full power-off reboot, so you must switch your PC on via its mains switch. Also, it is very important to follow the manual on how to install the driver, so if this must happen with the tablet unplugged or plugged is important.
