Digital Oil Painting Portrait of a Shoebill

Another Digital Oil Painting made in krita.

This painting is strongly inspired on the book “Drawing and Painting Animals” by Edward Aldrich.

I’m still working in the techniques and the brushes needed for made this types of painting like the ones showed in the previously mentioned book.

The idea for the future is to share a step by step for make this types of paintings that look more traditional.

Great Job!

Great job! Bird looks nice and fluffy.

What brushes did you use here?

I’ll stay tuned for your step by step. Adding this page to speedial so I don’t forget

Hi kacart!,

I used various brushes. I’m still trying the ones that work for this type of style, but mostly I used:

  • “DA Oil 12 Color Fade” (Under Painting), because the “Bristle-4 Glaze” wasn’t working for me, I need to make it some adjustments for properly work for me.

  • “Bristle-3 Large Smooth” for everything related with hair/fur, but I changed the brush Tip for some that looked like a frayed brush (bristle circle medium, bristle circle random).

  • “Basic-6 Details”

*Various Texture Splat presets

I wanted to use the new RGBA presets brushes, maybe in the next painting of a little cat that i will do soon.
