What digital painting tutorials do you all recommend?
Rather than a specifically digital painting tutorial, I recommend more generalized art tutorials, and specific painting application function/material effects type tutorials. Most of the important art and drawing knowledge is applicable to any kind of illustration, and not just digital art, and the things specific to digital art and applicable across multiple programs are things you’ll pick up on without any kind of tutorial or help, such as layers and blending.
More than following tutorials, though, it’s best to learn by doing. The most important thing for learning to draw or paint is the creative thought process, and no one can teach you how to be creative.
I agree with Jela. Digital art is like 80% the same techniques as traditional painting, 10% knowing the software and another 10% knowing what the differences to traditional (like color management, additive color model (different mixing), and general computer stuff).
A lot of digital art tutorials are mostly how to use software XYZ or worse, subliminal Photoshop Ads. Of course knowing your way around the software you use is important, since its 10% of the digital art knowledge but they will rarely teach you general drawing/painting.
So when you’re looking for Krita tutorials, to learn what the Program does, there are plenty of on YouTube and you can find many good ones in #resources:tutorials too. If your interested in learning to draw and paint, general art tutorials are much better for the most part. When looking at my art learning books on my shelf, pretty much everything in there can be done with pen and paper until it touches things like filters and blending modes.
Thank you! I’ll try that!
