Hi there,
Watercolor is a loveable technique and Krita can do amazing things. I am working a lot to make a new Digital Atelier massive update. Is going to be amazing. Now i have ready the icons for watercolor. What do you think? Do you know the project?
This is the original Digital Atelier watercolor pack
I have changed lot of things.I keep the names for old users not get so distracted but i think icons are easier to read and understand now. I need to go forward and start with Pastels, because Krita can improve also there. Comments are welcome! we play at home, so feedback is always useful
Some of the presets in the current DA pack rely on Krita’s old brush flow behavior, if I’m not mistaken. Are you adapting them to the new (creamy) mode?
@RamonM I noticed new default watercolor brushes in the Krita 4.3 pre-alpha. Are those from you? And are any of them the same as the watercolor brushes in Atelier?
Hi, yes, those brushes in 4.3 alpha are the reduced version of DA update. They were carefully created to use only the default resources available in Krita ans use by default the creamy mode to show one thing. "What we have is already really good".
But… as not everybody can afford the DA pack, so i spent a LOT of time to create them using also the new icons and some ideas produced for DA update.
If you want to support the Krita development then you can purchase the DApack with more different behaviors, textures, brushtips and more. Also i am working now in pastels, but i advise the update in pastels will be not so long for a good reason
Well, I can say I like those new brushes in the pre-alpha very much. In my opinion, they are a significant improvement over the previous default brushes. And I noticed the previous brushes are still there also so I guess that would be good for anyone who prefers the previous (or is that because I am running two versions of Krita?).
BTW, I did purchase the DA pack last year and I am anxiously awaiting the update.
Thank you for your hard work!
If I may make a suggestion: the round brushes have a small highlight are on them, I think the mop brush icons would benefit from them too, the shape is very good but it looks a little bit to flat for me, I think maybe a highlight would help there and maybe on the flat blushes too. (And if so it would be better to move the highlight on the plastic part of the mop brush to the opposite side of the shadow).
I’ve also seen the icons of the pastel set on your Instagram and I have to say they look even better! I’ll buy the new set as soon as it comes out!
Is there a soft guide line on how should the icons look on krita? Like what is the grey value of the background, what’s the angle of the “brush” icon, how much of the diagonal of the square should it take and so on? If not it could be useful.
That guide is a bit outdated. We changed the BG for example from gradient to flat. also created a lot of new pictograms. but i follow these guidelines.
In the stroke
Black means pixel brush engine
Purple means Color Smudge
White means Blending, no color.
Checker boxes means erasers
Angle for the pictogram i use this created by David Revoy
I am doubting to update pastels for now, They are quiete nice as they are and this takes me lot of time. But if you want to do it here you have some ideas. Who knows maybe i am tired today
Lately i am trying to improve some charcoals to be more realistic and with good results. Do you have any reference about the style we could achieve?. I would like to know your opinion.
I don’t mind if you are quoting another softwares, and captures , links, or examples are welcome. Maybe this way we could have the better charcoal brushes for everybody and without dust!
Have a nice day
Only a preview of what is my “goal”, this guy is a master. Please don’t be rude i was analizing a lot of things and drawing at the same time. So the result… anyway here you have a preview.
Is really interesting for me to paint like this, because i was thinking literally how i would make this in real life and then i realize i was blowing the screen.
