Dodge and Burn on an image

Coming from Photoshop and other editors (GIMP) I used the Dodge and Burn tools oftern.

The Dodge and Burn brushes here in Krita seem to not work as expected. They both do the same thing, lighten the image only, when I bush over a section of the image. I would expect one of the to lighten the area and the other to darker said area.

Burn should darken

But it also depends on your color model and profile. For example, most blending modes work the opposite in CMYK (if they work at all).

A few times I had the issue that the blending mode of the l) Adjust Overlay Burn, which is Overlay, was stuck with the previous used mode. But it is nothing I can recreate at will, if it happens it happens, and this is what solved it for me so far:
It normally “snaps back” to working when I just switch over to another opened picture which I often already have open in a second tab and go immediately back, also selecting a different tool and going back to the Freehand Brush Tool can make it switching back immediately.
Without knowing which brush stuck for you, the l) Adjust Dodge uses Colour Dodge as the blending mode if you want to manually set the brushes back to their originally used blending mode.

Let’s hope it will help you too, but if not then feel free to report back.
