Does anyone else have this Krita lockup problem?

So this issue has been going on since I first got krita back in version 4.4.5 and it still happens in the (as of posting this it’s the latest) 5.0.2 build.
What happens is that after about 20 to 35 minutes of use on a project all general input on my mouse and keyboard other than left clicking (drawing) is registered.
No hotkeys work, the right mouse button doesn’t even seem to register, and the scroll wheel doesn’t zoom in and out anymore. I have no idea if anyone else has had a similar issue to this one or not, but it’s becoming really frequent to the point where I made this Krita Artist account just to see if I’m losing my mind or if this is an actual thing that others have encountered.

I did use the logger to try and see if there’s anything odd when it did lock up, and this is the only error that happened when it already locked up and I tried to scale the brush with “Shift + Left Click Drag”.

(btw I’m using Windows 10 if that helps narrow anything down.)

Hello and welcome to the forum

A similar sounding bug was reported earlier and was fixed this month.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=438784

Can you download and try the latest nightly Windows portable .zip package:
https://binary-factory.kde.org/job/Krita_Nightly_Windows_Build/lastSuccessfulBuild/artifact/krita-nightly-x64-5.1.0-prealpha-2e15682e6e.zip

You’ll need to Extract it then go into the resulting folder and run the ‘krita’ file.
This portable .zip package will use the same resources and configurations as your 5.0.2 installation but won’t affect the 5.0.2 installed version.

Thanks for the swift response! Glad that I’m not the only one that had this issue, and even more glad it got fixed!

But is your problem fixed when using the latest portable .zip?

Indeed it has!

The system works !!
EDIT: I spoke too soon :frowning:

Okay update: It has not been fixed, it worked until I closed and reopened Krita, now it’s doing the thing I described again.
Welp.

Does your problem involve the repeated and rapid use of Ctrl+Shift+Space, Ctrl+Space and Space and swapping between them for rapid Rotate/Zoom/Pan manipulation?

That is what the bug was about.

Apparently not, I honestly don’t know what’s causing it. I’ve tried replicating it by hand, but to no avail, it just kinda happens (usually at the most inconvenient of times).
Although I have a sneaking suspicion that it has to do with something when I tab out of Krita and tab back in. Because I just tried to press Ctrl and Space outside of Krita because I was working on something else, and I came back to Krita and it did what I described in the OG post.

Might be a thing

Then can you do controlled tests where you tab in and out of krita, and also for some time where you don’t tab in and out of krita to see if that is a definite trigger for it.

Does it only happen when swapping to that other application you were using or with any other application?

What is the other application? No rush, take your time

Blender was the other tab, I 3D model as my main profession.

I’ll update you when I get through the controlled tests

Thank you. There is no rush at all and after reading this then some other people may want to try that as well. The more the better.

I do hope you can tell us more about that when you can. Lots of people here will be very interested.

I just got back, I Can’t seem to replicate it. Although I did notice the canvas lags a bunch for a few seconds when I did press Ctrl or Space in blender and tabbed back into Krita.

I’m starting to think it might be time based because the amount of time it took for it to happen post using the nightly build was a solid 20 to maybe 25 minutes, and when I closed and reopened krita it didn’t immediately lock up. It allowed me to right click and pan until I made a new drawing project.

One of the developers may be aware of what might be causing this situation.
Are you using a drawing tablet stylus or a mouse.
Is it the same whichever you use?

Sometime soon, I’ll install Blender on my Windows system (I usually use Linux) and see if it happens for me.

If it’s not resolved soon then I think you’d need to raise a formal bug report but after some more tests to get a causative factor pinned down.

I’m using a mouse, as I don’t own a (working) tablet as of rn.

Maybe the same problem as me?

THIS YES.
Just tested it, This is what the cause of my problem as the OG post!

except in my case it’s Snip & Sketch, I just took a screenshot on Krita, and it did what my issue was!

Maybe one of you can make a bug report and the other one can Confirm it?
However, I’m not sure if the developers could fix this by changing the code.
