Double texture

Hey hello there fellow Krita artist and community!

I’m thinkering with brushes and I was wondering if there was a way when creating apixel brush to add a second texture input. As if I wanted to add a texture on top of the one I already have (not a masked brush)
I’m trying to recreate a real pencil and If I could merge a lightness map texture along with a substract or height texture, I’d get what I ultimately want.

Please let me know if there is any ways I can code or tweak this
Thank you very much!

Hi idon’t know if you refer to something like this. Layer style with Pattern overlay. Please let me know about your progress.

The brushstroke in the image is the brush called “c) sk2 02 2B pencil” from the last bundle i have created. Maybe it could speed up your progress? the bundle is here.

Hey Hello there Ramon and thanks for taking the time to answer my question!
Although what you are suggesting is clever, it sadly doesn’t give the desired output i’m looking for since I’m not using opaque values, I insted build them through the opacity of my brush. You can see the result here:

While we are on the topic of layer styles, I also tried to use the texture emboss to see if it would be any better, but once again, it fails to deliver that traditional look once I go over some area I already painted during the same stroke (going back and forth) Also I had to keep the emboss to a minimum or else it would simply look fake:

I’m glad you brought up your brushes because they are the primary reason I switched to krita (SK1) SO thanks you a lot for that :D!!! I think they are well made, but I still have some issue with them. The thing is that many of your brushes in SK1 and SK2 kinda have this multiply build up if you hover a same place during the same stroke. Normally with a pencil, you wouldn’t get that. The power of the values would more likely be controlled by the pressure you put on your brush. That is why I use a subtract texture mode in my brush, so that I can control the darkness by pen pressure rather than stroke build up. But it is at the same time one of the reason I have the problem I have as your brushes are able to retain the texture of the paper throughout the stroke. That is why I’m looking for a way to combine the Lightness Map texture mode with subtract. I created 2 brushes from the ones you provided that kinda achieve some nice result, but here I am again, trying to retain the paper texture once I go over my stroke during the same movment.

(if I’m not clear, I could provide a video)

And so I’m wondering if there is any way to add an extra texture slot in the pixel brush engine?
Or even better, but that would be a ton of work, have a brush system based on nodes.

Haha, I hope this helps whoever wants to help contribute on this question :stuck_out_tongue:
Thanks again for your interest and time Ramon! And thanks again for sharing your great tips and brushes

I actually cracked it!!!

Making a brush with a dual brush was the answer
Thanks again for your time
*I’ll probably share it later in a bundle along with other goodies
