Downloaded 5.1.1 and it crashes right away!

I downloaded 5.1.1 and as soon as it opens it then closes. I should never have uninstalled the last version but it wouldn’t let me keep the last version. Frustrating because I have no idea why it crashes as soon as it opens.

Did you clear out the Krita configuration directories…maybe there is something left over causing the problem…

The files in your screenshot are for Linux, I haven’t looked, but it could be a screenshot of the attic, or did you use Linux previously?
OOOKAY, after seeing your double-topic, where you state to be new with Windows, it seems you were on Linux or maybe macOS before, am I right?
Oh no, F…, in your other topic about this you say Krita started, and the crash happened while opening your picture??? What do we have to believe now? Did Krita crash while starting, like in your first posting in this topic, or did it crash while you are loading this picture, like you say in the other topic??? Sorry, but this chaos makes me very unhappy!

But anyway:
VERY IMPORTANT, before experimenting later with your important file, make a copy of it, make a backup of your picture!

Well, let’s see:

On your Windows, you, with your absent knowledge, probably won’t find which was the previous version you have used. The previous Krita-Release-Version was 5.1.0. If you had it installed, I don’t know?! But that is not important to know, so let it aside.
If your previous version was a 5, and you made your pic with that 5, then it’s very possible that you won’t be able to continue editing it with Krita 4.x. And because you are unable to edit it further with the 4 you installed in between, it seems it was a 5. Your screenshot let me also think that it was a Krita 5.x-Version.
Before you had begun your installation forth and back, have you tried to delete or rename the current resource-data-base, e.g., the “resourcecache.sqlite”, that you’ll find it in Krita’s resources-folder?
(You can delete the “resourcecache.sqlite” only in case Krita is not active, when you start Krita after you deleted that file Krita rebuilds it, often this will fix it. BUT that was the action you have had to try before loosing your head! Don’t think about it at the moment).
Because of that mess, I would propose that you download the current portable Version of Krita, this link is a direct download.
Unpack it to your desktop or any other folder you like and have access to. Windows-Explorer is able to open and unpack ZIP-Archives. Double-click the archive and drag and drop the folder “krita-x64-5.1.1”, that you’ll find in it, to a folder you like.
Enter the unpacked folder “krita-x64-5.1.1” and open/start/double-click the link named “krita” in it and then tell us what happens. Does it start? Can you access your file?
Please report what happens. If it does not start take a look in Krita’s resource-folder under “c:\Users\YOUR_WINDOWS_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\krita\” where you have to replace “YOUR_WINDOWS_USERNAME” with your Windows user-name, the name you log in with.
ADD/EDIT: (It is too late, I forgot something) Can you find the “resourcecache.sqlite” in the resource-folder?

It is very late here in Germany, it may be that I can’t answer this night again, (Edit: I’m going to sleep now, I’m too tired, and I just had to fix my errors, so it is better to sleep for now) but I’m not the only user here, other users can step in. Otherwise, you have to wait until tomorrow.
I hope I didn’t write too much crap now, but your mindless back and forth makes a character like me nervous, sorry.

There are some years since I used Windows seriously, but if I’m not mistaken the AppData can (might) be a hidden folder.

Here a more straight way to open this AppData folder:

Hold the keys: Windows + R
It will open a program titled: Run
Type: %AppData% and hit OK

This should open the folder.

And please don’t spam others topic about the same thing. This will only discouraging others to help you. Nobody will be running arround random topic after you.

Thank you. I don’t know if you’re interested in helping me but Michelist was rude and condescending. IMO he needs to learn how to interact politely or stop being an moderator.

Here’s the folder. I was expecting 1 file named: resourcecache.sqlite but there are a number of similar files and I want to delete the correct ones. Some help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I’m thinking I need to delete both but want to make sure. Also Do I leave the other files as is? Thanks

Delete both will be easier, but keep in mind tags will be restore to default.
Close krita → delete resourcecache.sqlite → relaunch krita

Deleted the “resource” files and restarted Krita 5.1.1. It crashed immediately upon opening.

Hmm…can you find kritacrash.log from C:\Users\ YourUserName \AppData\Local?
Copy the text here, and make its format as a code block (Ctrl+E).

Though I can’t understand the crash log, someone can.

You say I am rude.
Did you notice how long I was writing an answer to your questions, when you suddenly opened a new topic about the same problem, against the forum rules, and suddenly told the story a little differently?
When I noticed this after some time, I had to rewrite half of the text again. And since I first have to write everything down in German and then translate it to be able to post it here, it really makes trouble to rewrite a whole text. And then you are supposed to stand there happily and applaud? But since you don’t seem to be interested in the rules of the forum at all, you continue to post merrily across the forum, although you have already been advised not to do so, really great. But I am rude, thank you!

In principle I like to help, but sometimes it is made as difficult as possible for those who want to help, and that can cost you quite a lot of nerves.

Maybe is a problem with your graphic card. You have a Ryzen 3900X, so you do have a separate GPU.
Do you know what model it is? Is the driver of such GPU properly installed and updated?

Delete the resourcecache.sqlite as you did before.

After we can disable the ability of Krita using the Graphic Card. Inside the AppData folder you might see a file named: kritadisplayrc
Open this file with a Text Editor.
Find the line written: OpenGLRenderer.
Then change to this exactly: OpenGLRenderer=none`

Ok. You are experiencing a known bug. Krita is trying to open / access a .psd file. First report in this thread (that you commented something completely random), the bug itself was resolved already Bug 459512.

In the AppData folder you will see a file name kritarc. Delete this file (and the resourcecache.sqlite one too).
Try opening Krita again.

It looks like from krita.log , not kritacrash.log. (maybe kritacrash.log did not appear )
But it maybe, like Daishishi said, a bug from .psd recent file.
Remove the RecentFiles section in kritarc (open with text, under the same folder as krita.log file) should do the job. Nuke the whole kritarc will reset most of krita’s setting.

I saw the file named: kritadisplayrc earlier but now after restarting it is gone from the AppData folder. I relaunched Krita hoping it would create a new on but no luck. So I just deleted the resourcecache.sqlite file.

Hi, only resourcecache.sqlite was in the AppData folder so I deleted it, then restarted Krita 5.1.1 and it crashed immediately again.

You found the file kritacrash.log, and the kritadisplay file, in the same folder there is a file named: kritarc.

Attention!!!

The same folder as the kritacrash.log find and delete the file kritarc

Yes kritarc is not in the folder. I tried something out of desperation. I opened Krita 5.1.1 and it crashed immediately even after deleting the “resource” file and the “kritarc”. I felt defeated, then I though to try something. I opened Krita 5.1.1 and immediately before crashing I selected (Recent Documants > Clear). Krita crashed, but then I stubbornly reopened Krita again until the “Recent Documents” area was empty and Krita has stayed open. I don’t know if this has solved it or if it’s going to crash still but fingers crossed.

Any ideas what caused this. You said it was probably due to opening a .psd file but the file was saved as a .kra file so I don’t think that was it. Would having multiple browser windows (tabs) open cause this. The file is 1.4 GB in size.

Please tell me how I can I prevent this from happening in the future.
