Hello, how do you draw on top of a reference image?
When I import an image and draw over it, the ink stays under the image!
Note: A ‘Reference Image’ is a specific thing which is separate from the image you’re working on. You’ll see the Reference Images Tool icon on the Toolbox. It looks like a board pin.
What you have there is some kind of imported layer (??) with an image on it that you’re using for reference … maybe.
The obvious explanation would be that the imported layer is above the layer that you’re drawing on and so the solid paint area of the imported layer is covering the black line you draw on the lower layer.
Then again, maybe you have brought in a Reference Image and you’re trying to draw on top of it, which you can’t do.
The only way to confirm this is to upload a full screen screenshot (.png) with the Layers Docker showing.
Have a look at the Layers docker and see what the situation is, or give a better explanation of what you actually did.
Yes, this is what happens.
Why can’t you draw on a reference image?
I guess the solution is to import the image to a separate layer (without using the reference image tool).
You can reduce the opacity of the reference image.
A Reference Image is for reference, to look at and be inspired/guided. It can be moved around and is not part of the image you’re working on.
Yes, you need to import the image so that it becomes part of the image/document that you’re working on.
I think I have lost the image.
There is no option to transform the reference image into a layer.
you can screenshot it and then paste it as a layer if you’re on windowd windows key +shift + s lets you screenshot a specific part of the screen do that and then paste it on krita
The tricky tip:
- create a copy of your kra file
- change extension from
.kra
to.zip
- open zip file and then go into zip directory
reference_images
: you’ll find all references image as PNG format - extract theses files from zip into a directory, and now you have files available again
