Error with ffmpeg, ffprobe not found and and wanting newer version even after updated

Hello, this is my first time on here so I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask (sorry if it isn’t)

I’ve been trying to use the ‘animator video reference’ feature of Krita but whenever I try to open it, it comes up with the same pop-up stating that ffmpeg and ffprobe is not found along with saying I need Krita 4.2 or newer. I currently have ffmpeg downloaded and working when it comes to rendering animations and I am using Krita 5 so I’m not sure what the problem is.
I am using a MacBook computer

here’s a screenshot of the message if anyone wants to see the pop-up: https://i.ibb.co/1JCLdDz/Screenshot-2023-10-09-at-2-15-33-pm.png

Hello @Cup and welcome to the forum

That Animator Video Reference plugin was so popular that it was incorporated into the code of the krita application. Because of that, it wasn’t developed any further as a plugin.

Now, with the krita version 5.x, you can use File → Import Video Animation, that uses the same interface as the old plugin.
Please try that and let us know if it’s ok for you.

You need to bear in mind that a video imported into krita will be uncompressed and will give a fully painted keyframe for every frame of the video.
That can require a lot or RAM to be used, especially if the video frame size and hence canvas size is large and/or the video is a long one.
If you only have 4 GB of RAM then you’d need to be careful about that.

Where did you get information about the old plugin?
