I know you’ve all been waiting desperately for the sequel to the clone+impasto demo - so here you go!
After neglecting the onion for so long I was shocked to find it had mutated into a ferocious monster. The garlic was nowhere to be seen and the mushroom was fighting for it’s life! Disturbed by all the noise, Link jumped down from his shelf to see what all the commotion was…
True story!..
I painted this straight over the top of the first one. I didn’t bother with a drawing this time - just blocked it in and worked from there. I changed the base colour to a cooler one as I didn’t think it through last time (don’t think the ochre was the best thing to work over with a predominantly warm palette).
I used the same layered impasto and clone brush technique as last time, but also made more use of standard brushes for this. The clone can be very cool, but you can only sample what you have on the canvas - so unless you lay out a huge palette on the canvas it’s difficult to avoid using normal brushes. The options are also very limited for the clone engine so you don’t have much flexibility. You can at least change the tips and opacity for some variability.
Hope you like it! I don’t expect I’ll do another one like this…

I hope not since your subjects are surely in the trash right? You did a great job of keeping the same brush style.

Who is Link? What’s his backstory? What does the emblem on his shield represent? Did he save the mushroom?
Please do more paintings of Link and his adventures

Thanks! I umm… I mean… well… no - they’re still there…
Link is a Hylian from the mystical land of Hyrule. The important part of the emblem is the three triangles which represent the Triforce of power. Yes - he saved the mushroom and they went off to live happily ever after in the Mushroom Kingdom with Princess Peach!
Mario wasn’t happy…
I’m not sure if you really don’t know or just pretending, so - here’s a link to explain the link between my painting and Link…

I really didn’t know so thank you for the link … to Link.
I have quite an isolated life and I’m largely unaware of modern popular culture, especially the various cartoon and animated characters.
(I do know who Mario is because of the many references I’ve seen to him.)

Don’t worry - it’s long gone now!
Due to a shortage of onions I ended up cutting into it to see if I could salvage anything. Turns out it was still firm and juicy once I got past the outer layer - so it ended up in a meal!
The mushroom on the other hand…

Phew, I can sleep
And sounds like the onion got it’s correct fate, tbh, and glad you got something good for your meal. And, yes, if you so much as look at a mushroom it starts crumpling, lol; they’re rightly named.
