Eye doodle

Yesterday I finished an exhausting episode for my webtoon. I still have nearly 300 panels to go so I felt like I needed a pause.
I felt like drawing something freely before I dive back into production…
This one is started in gray, which I never do usually. Not sure I’ll go for it.

Thanks ! I find it adds humidity to the eye !

a couple more. It always feels weird to have a bunch of random eyes… sorry.
I wasn’t expecting eyelashes to be so problematic…

Eye, Eye, Eye - Eyelashes are a hairy thing.
But you are good at mastering them!

And you are the pun master ! :joy:
Thank you very much I’m trying!

Here’s another peeper

I think I’m getting more at ease to throw myself any way and find a way out:

Well, I have a bunch of random clay ears laying around my desk, at least your eyes take less space! Great work on the cornea bulge, and I love how you suggest the roundness.

I wish I could share a couple of videos of eyes from an anatomy course. Have you ever seen one being squeezed shut in slowmo? It’s amazing, it contracts around the inner corner due the medial palpebral ligament. Eyes are weird.

Hey! let’s switch to ears then!
Thanks for the kind word, I’m trying.
I sometimes look for educational material, but I have yet to find a transcending one. Recently I have been covering flat and repainting some Bouguereau eyes, I found it super valuable!
About the slow motion, I’ve recently watched a tear drop but the model was not squeezing hard if that’s what you mean.
Eyes are spectacular!.. time for ears!

Oh yeah, I have real problems with eyelashes. I find them very hard to make match the rest of the image.

Bouguereau’s eyes are wonderful. It’s nice you mentioned him, I think I’ll refer back to his work when I get to eyes, which might be soon despite having just started with noses because your work is giving me the itch.

I’m naturally inclined towards volumes so maybe that’s influencing the outcome of my studies, but I found sculpting ears enlightening. It’s not like I didn’t knew what they looked like, but I swear I felt my mind expand. When I sat down to paint I didn’t even have to try, the ears just leveled up by themselves. :joy:

The downsides are that it takes more time, may have a learning curve and in the case of real clay it’s messy. The upside: You get models you can check when painting.

Bouguereau’s name was unknown to me until a little ago. What a slap in my face…

Seems like a boomerang effect happened then!
Noses are also on my list! (ok just like every other feature…)

I never thought of it. Sadly too many hands and paws over here for me to try it out… maybe 3D ? (never done 3D for art, so no sculpting XP) Having real light on models would be so valuable…
Or maybe draw some heavy wireframes to compensate a bit…

I guess that’s because they are so distinct, sharp and black, it’s hard to fit them in without looking like using a heavy marker ? That’s how I feel about it…

Haha, I solved that problem making my desk off-limits. The humans respect it fine, the cat, almost.

Ears are the one feature in which I felt a huge difference when doing digitally and in real clay. But will digital sculpting still help? Absolutely! Trying it out was one of the best decisions I ever made. I can’t recommend it enough.

It’s not industry-standard and it can crash if you sculpt on very dense meshes, but Blender is a great option to try it. It’s also foss, and when it comes to light it has the upper hand over real sculpting: you can use any setup you can dream of. It’s very helpful!

Jealous to death! I took the habit of hiding the stylus! (ok… and the hdmi cable)

Woohoo! I shall try that (but certainly in early 2025, as I need some mental availability for the new)
And yes! foss all the way :+1: (What ? The mac ? It’s the company’s choice!)

I didn’t think of it this way, now I see the cup half-full! Thanks!

Thank you for your time/advice!
