Facebook bans mentions of and links to Linux

This is kinda off topic but also important since many Krita users are also Linux users and perhaps are posting on it on Facebook or other Meta products.

Facebook has banned users or hides/removes posts mentioning Linux or linking to DistroWatch.

that’s infuriating even though I don’t use facebook!

The only reason for this is that they hope to be able to place their AI garbage everywhere and introduce total control. 1984 was a shallow novella by comparison. Windows and macOS will no longer be AI-free in the existing / upcoming versions, and anyone who tries to defend themselves against the surveillance that is to be brought into every home in this way must now apparently be silenced.
This fits in perfectly with the abolition of fact-checkers. Does Zuckerberg no longer remember what was done to his people after the media was brought into line during the Third Reich and the opposition was silenced? And now he’s jumping on board with the fascists and putting his weight behind the wheel, he doesn’t even realize how crazy he is anymore, only because he’s being waved at with a few more dollars, he, who has more than some nations have at their disposal in a year, so much money that he can never spend it …
How sick it all is!

… decided that Linux is malware and labelled groups associated with Linux as being “cybersecurity threats”.

If ordinary people use Linux, that does threaten the Facehugger’s future business model and profits. That is all they care about and they will say anything to justify their decisions and actions.

Isn’t that just some psychological projection on Meta’s part? They see something that actually grants people freedom and they want it to go away, so they lie and say it’s malicious software when really they are the bad company with malicious policies.

Goofy excrement like this is why I’m deleting my account forever. Trying to act like Facebook isn’t the insidious spyware while scapegoating everyone in favor of software freedom.

They’re asking to be abandoned on mass.

I just hate people like this who mess with software freedom for their own greedy insidious gain.

Today I went to contact all my friends and Facebook blocked me at every turn. I spent all day in vain, fighting this new inadequate Facebook over the simple task of collecting contacts.

There’s a place in hell for Meta.

Heh, weird. But I agree, it has to be somehow related to AI models  They probably don’t want people sharing instructions related to running Open Source models on their local Linux boxes.

The fact check had to go, because otherwise large parts of the - and here comes the magic word: CHEAPEST produced content from the LLM’s laxative orifices would be exposed as generated fake content. In this way, more and more employees can be saved who generate plausible content or roughly check content for plausibility.

Also, crazy is the fact, that in the back-ends of these tech-giants the majority of their server-parks run on Linux, because of costs, stability and scalability. All the MS-Server-Products, Oracle and Co have niche-markets where they are very successful, but Linux is the work-horse and leader of the pack. And Linux is ideally suited to integrating all the different server systems in the hybrid mixed structures that are common today.

Update:

Facebook has lifted a temporary ban preventing users from posting links to popular OS comparison site Distrowatch – after going so far as to lock the account of the site’s editor.

They would rather need an execution order for the whole AI thing (kill Skynet  ) to get rid of the spook again.
And if you add to that the fact that the most stupid president of all time has now lifted all regulations on research into and the use of AI for companies in the USA, and they are now allowed to do whatever they want, then good night.

Best line from on Facebook flags linux topics as cybersecurity threats on Tom’s Hardware:

Facebook will soon realize that it has mistaken what is a flock of migratory birds for a squadron of assault drones.

I hope the author is right.

Yup, Linux users are just different. I hear my cousin complaining about windows who has masters in computer science but refuses to move to Linux because it’s too much “work” apparently.

Your cousin is not wrong… I’m in the same boat. I will move to Linux if Windows gets even worse in terms of privacy violations, ads, or similar nonsense… At the moment it’s still acceptable to me, so it’s the matter of when they will push the needle too far.

Linux is usable, but it indeed is a hassle to use if your hardware setup is a bit more unorthodox, or if you want to run some Windows only apps, etc. For me the basics are the most annoying, e.g. getting multi monitor scaling to work robustly and with good quality. Absolutely fundamental if you use productivity and text apps on your PC. Also, these days I have access to WSL2, so I can run a lot of powerful Linux software on my Windows, so it’s like the best of both worlds.

But yeah, I have no doubt Microsoft will continue pushing all sorts of bloatware and other garbage, so it’s probably more of a case of “when” rather than “if” I will have to move.

“bloatware and other garbage”
That would certainly be windows. Been like that for a very long time.

One of their newest things is AI, which seem to me to mean Authorized Invasiveness. It is watching you all the time, and “learning” uploading everything to a massive database where it can be analyzed and sold to the highest bidder.

Read the EULA, if you have the time and patience. I don’t even take pictures with my iphone, since they become apple property.

I don’t have an account on any of the “social media” out there, unless we include kirta-artists.

The easy solution to facebook banning linux users is to remove your facebook account and keep your privacy.

Big Brother IS watching, and you actually pay extra for it to happen.
