Feature Request: Addition of "Pen Nib" Cursor Shape

Hi Krita Team,

I am a regular Krita user and would like to suggest a quality-of-life improvement for the cursor settings.

Currently, Krita offers shapes like the Triangle, Crosshair, and Circle. However, many artists coming from software like Clip Studio Paint or Photoshop are used to a “Pen” or “Fountain Pen Nib” cursor shape.

Why this would be helpful:

* Familiarity: It eases the transition for artists migrating from other industry-standard software.

* Precision: A tilted pen nib icon provides a clear “point” for the stroke while being more visually intuitive than a simple triangle.

* Aesthetics: It gives the workspace a more traditional “ink and paper” feel which many illustrators prefer.

Suggested Implementation:

Add a “Pen” or “Nib” option to the dropdown menu in Settings > Configure Krita > General > Cursor. This could be a simple 16x16 or 32x32 bitmap icon similar to the existing tool icons.

Thank you for all the amazing work you do on this software!

What would this type of shape look like? If anyone has said software available, taking screenshots of the cursors in question would help.

Providing bitmap or vector images under an appropriate license (such as CC BY-SA 4.0) would also work. Obviously don’t take/directly copy the cursors from those other programs, the creations need to be original.

You don’t speak by chance about the functionality offered by the Custom Brush Cursor plugin? With it, you can load a free selectable picture to be then shown as your pointer.
If you then add the plugin Brush Sound Effects to Krita, you perhaps forget that you are working digitally …

In software like Clip Studio Paint or Photoshop (when using the Pen tool), the cursor usually resembles a traditional fountain pen nib or a stylized ink pen.

* Shape: A “diamond” or “shield” shaped tip with a small slit in the middle (the “tine”).

* Angle: It is almost always tilted at a 45° angle to mimic how a right-handed person holds a pen.

* Precision Point: The “hotspot” (the exact pixel where the line starts) is located at the very tip of the nib.

Option A: The “Modern Nib” (Minimalist)

A sleek, sharp triangle-based shape with a small vertical notch at the bottom. It provides the precision of Krita’s current “Triangle” cursor but feels like a drawing tool.

Vector Path Concept: M 0,0 L 10,15 L 6,15 L 5,12 L 4,15 L 0,15 Z (A sharp point that widens into a pen body).

Option B: The “Classic Fountain” (Traditional)

A classic flared nib shape tilted 45 degrees. It has a rounded “shoulder” and a sharp point.

Visual Description: “An asymmetrical nib shape where the tip is the active hotspot. The body of the nib should be high-contrast (white outline with a dark fill) to ensure it is visible on both dark and light canvases.”

Technical Specifications for the Request

* Size: Standard 32x32 px (with a 16x16 px fallback).

* Hotspot: 0,0 (The top-left or the very tip of the nib).

* Format: .xpm or .png (Krita handles cursor resources as bitmaps).

Oh, this appears to just be an AI slop response. Nevermind then.

i didn’t know how to format what i was talking about or express my request so yes the previous response was Ai but the original request was formatted by me. I’m sorry if i came off as deceiving.

I did try you’re solution but it didn’t work for me. However yes that was the idea. just a small pen nub to help tracking.

Its better if you can make a proper mock up.

Also i support his idea, you need to put as an examples from other softwares, to understand your Request.

I believe the user @Lakyria_partee have better intentions. Just he need a little clarification
