edit: i’ve added new info to this post as I try to fix this problem (no luck yet), seeing as there are so many topics regarding this issue going back years (5 years?). I’m guessing it comes & goes with various updates, but some are hardware related (OS related as well). I looked through 30 topics so far that seemed similar to my question.
For a few months now i’ve had an issue where when loading files from the main menu or closing them & going back to the main menu freezes krita for typically about 20 second to as long as a few minutes. This is even happening when creating new files at any size & any ppi setting, tried many, as low as 100x100 pixels. The program says not responding while it’s frozen. I don’t have any issues with lag on the canvas, using tools or moving through the menus such as the pop up menus in File or Settings, it’s just opening & closing documents. It takes about 23 seconds to load krita, the actual program which seems fine considering how many brush packs & stuff that I have. But taking that same amount of time or longer to load/exit files which I do a lot is pretty slow.
This doesn’t just happen for krita files by the way, even jpegs at various sizes so I assume any file loaded/closed in krita does this.
While searching other threads for answers I see it mentioned that Krita uses 1 core when loading files & rtss reports over 90% cpu usage on one of my cores when opening files. I had thought this was a bottleneck but it could be misreporting, because it doesn’t even record fps properly which i’ve seen other people talk about on this site. Krita was not this slow a few months ago, and i’ll share my specs at the bottom. I’m wondering if I can do anything like deactivate some brush bundles & python scripts to make it load & close files faster or something like that.
I also read in another thread that the steam version got an update to how it handles python so if that’s true maybe all of my python scripts are doing something weird (although they all still seem to work normally). Also, OpenGL & ANGLE have the same amount of lag so I switched back to ANGLE since it’s the Auto option. I don’t use google drive, one drive or windows accessibility options besides scaling at 175% for all apps in the windows settings.
