Fill Tool lag (again and again)

Hello, I like very much Krita but it’s impossible to work on basic comic coloring with it because of the fill tool is so laggy. I have the problem with my two PC (Win 10), different CPU (Amd and Intel), different graphic card. I have no lag problem - 32 Go Ram ! - with brushes but the fill tool is driving me crazy.
On CSP or Photoshop, filling the same little zone is done without delay. In Krita, it can took several seconds.

I’ve tested and read all I could about this kind of problem but nothing seems to work. It’s kinda SOS here because it’s just impossible to work correctly with such lag for professional use and I will be forced to go back to CSP. And I don’t want to.

This sounds rather strange, even on my old potato laptop the fill happened in an instant. Could you perhaps provide an example file for testing?

I decided to test Display>OpenGL and scaling Mode>Nearest Neighbour and it’s better.
The file obsidian-couv-encr300.zip is available for download

I can’t download anything from that link, the site only says “Transfer not found”.

@lian00: Was it a one time download and another user used it before?

Michelist

Strange, when I click on the link, the download is available. I search for another site.

Maybe they are geo-blocking?

Michelist

I’ve been able to download file twice, I don’t have problem on my side to access it?

I think i understand what you mean by “lag”
On my side, whatever the area size to fill (even a 10x10 pixels square), there’s ~500ms-1s delay before having the area being filled

Not sure why.

Then it will be geo-blocking, because you’re both from the same country, even if I believe to remember that @lian00 lives in an overseas part of your country.

With the second link I was able to download it, didn’t expect it to be a tiff with some sketchy PSD content in it which Krita warned me about. But even as a PNG in 8 bit channel i notice a small delay, about 500 milliseconds maybe. Doesn’t depend on the file, created a new pretty file with some scribbles and it happens again. I didn’t notice before because I usually use the colorize mask. That must be a issue with the 5.2.2 version then, maybe even before?

It occurs even on 5.0.6 too
Didn’t tested yet on 4.x

Grum999

That would mean it’s like that for years, I don’t remember it being like this.

Same on 4.2.8
There’s a ~500ms delay between click and fill applied, whatever the area size

Grum999

It’s similar here, from the click it’s filled within half a second, but you might think Krita takes a quick breath beforehand.

Either my memory betrayed me or I simply never noticed it because I rarely fill many areas in quick succession.

To fill a 10x10 pixels square, the delay seems to be related to image size.

On a 500x500 image there’s no delay.
On a 2000x1000 image there’s a really short delay.
On a 5000x5000 it start to be noticeable (on my computer)
On a 20000x20000 it’s more than a second to fill a 10x10 pixel size square.

I’ve never noticed it before today, but I rarely use the fill tool.

Me too, I’m a painter, I need strokes.

Does it make a difference if there’s an existing selection to be filled or just drawing outlines, I wonder.

To fill a selection (with “Fill with foregorund color”) there’s also a delay on big sized document.
But maybe a little bit faster.
Hard to get precise measure time
