This is from October, I’ve just been too busy and tired to share it here.
I love drawing fishes and missed it after several months without sketching even one, so I used the opportunity of trying new brushes and transform filters to indulge in it. The light background version came first, but I quite like the black variant, it makes the colors pop.
I used a GMIC scale filter to generate quick scale masks which then I deformed with warp transforms for a couple of fishes. It’s very subtle but makes close ups interesting. Proper 3D scale textures would work better, but I couldn’t be bothered for something I was doing in half hour stretches in the evening.
And here’s a super quick gif with the initial fishes. I kept all layers to make a full timelapse later when I work out enough courage to deal with the source file. Masks x poster size artwork don’t play well in my computer.
@Avalander@BQwerty Thank you! Most of the details are sloppy and on pure instinct.
I feel that sometimes what we perceived as details are just stimulating bits like a light hue shift or a vague suggestion of scales. There’s no complexity, but they’re perceived as it. It’s very convenient for the artist, hah.
@kacart@zeki I’m glad you like our glossy little friends!
@LaTor You can find them all here in the forums but I won’t be linking to the threads because I don’t want to ping the authors unnecessarily.
The first fish used only Memileo Impasto brushes, but I felt they flattened it too much. Second was the round standard one that comes with Krita, then the ones from Sketch V2. (SK2) for the majority of the rendering and Memileo’s for glossy details and a scale here and there.
These fish are beautiful! This may be the weirdest comment you get but I would wear this if it were a print on fabric. They’re classy fish very elegant and mysterious. You’re art is so good it’s wearable.
I’m thinking of printing it to hang on an empty wall, but didn’t consider it as a wearable when working on it since I got no way to print those. It’s a challenge nowadays to find PODs for clothing and accessories that aren’t unethical or about to go bankrupt.
Thank you! Fishes let you make long winding animals that are also glossy or reflective as it they were just taken out of the water; they’re everything I love to paint.
