I was trying to use Krita instead of Inkscape for creating a graphic, but usually when I do this I stack multiple images vertically such that some end up outside the canvas, and then I resize to fit the layers so they are all visible. Krita only seems to have the option to trim the layers which deletes pixels.
It’s not just you.
Here is that Wishlist bug report. You can do an advanced search where you can specify many parameters including the names of people involved, which is how I found it:

P.S. Thank you for your excellent tutorial/information websites that you’ve recently posted links to. I’ve bookmarked this one and will try it one day when I have time:
1 - Select any tool that isn’t the Crop Tool.
2 - Hold Shift + Ctrl and Left click on the thumbnail of every layer (this adds each of the layers opaque areas to the selection (including area outside the canvas border).
3 - Select the Crop tool (we do this after the second step, because Krita will automatically adjust to meet the selection area as your cropping zone).
4 - Click the “Crop” button in the Tool Options to apply the crop (you can left click the crop area to apply it, too, but using the Crop button avoids the chance of moving the cropping area by mistake).
Maybe you could do that?
