I made this piece for lovely Moodboard Challenge!
And yeah, painting backgrounds for me is the hardest challenge right now, so I use most of the references for the character’s outfit ![]()
This turned out really nice! I wouldn’t have suspected that backgrounds give you trouble, the one you have in this piece is very supportive of the focal point (the character).
Nice perspective of the background! Cute Character! ![]()
@SirEric thank you for your kind words!
This time I cheated and blured bg but I’m giong to study hard to bring more details and textures in the future ![]()
@KRITAKOUGAR I’m glad you enjoy it! ![]()
@aprikosh, having a blurred background with a lack of detail is actually a very good thing in your picture, because it makes your character the focus of the image.
I took a course on environments and the instructor explained that you want to put the most detailing where you want the viewer to look. (I’ve made the mistake in the past of putting details everywhere in my piece, and ironically the eye doesn’t know where to look.) But selective detailing guides the viewer’s eyes very quickly to where you want them to focus - and in your picture, I think it works quite well.
Blurring the background like you did is also a very cinematic technique - depth of field. Having your character in sharp focus is another form of guiding the viewer to your focal point.
You’ve been blessed with a nice talent, and I pray you have fun continuing to develop your art skills!
Dear Sir Eric, your arguments was so cool and makes me thinking about it once again. You absolutely right that we should strive towards balance between details and simplification. And I’m happy that you find this piece cinematic, because it’s literally that I wanted to capture.
Hope you have fun with your art journey too! ![]()
