Freehand selection tool subtract-selection (with the alt-key) not working

Hi, hopefully a quick and easy one:

When using the freehand selection tool, you would expect to be able to add or subtract to a selection using either the shift or alt keys. The shift key works when I want to add to a selection, but the alt key does something weird when I want to subtract. It instead drags the whole of Krita around the screen.

Any ideas why this is happening?

This is a feature of the Linux window manager. You can turn it off in the OS settings, probably by disabling its global keyboard shortcut.

Great that sounds about right, I’ll have a look to see if I can resolve it then come back to report the results. Thanks :+1:

Fixed. It was in the Preferences>Windows>Behaviour Tab, then I disabled the ‘Special key’.

Many thanks - this was driving me crazy! Because I use Krita and not much else on my computer these days, I hadn’t realised it was a broader problem that affected everything else

Glad you fixed it!

I’m curious, what distro or desktop environment still do that? It looks like GTK widget; so I assume something like PopOS or Mint?

Yes, It’s Mint Cinnamon - I’ve been using it for only a couple weeks now, having spent a whole 6 months fighting against Zorin’s big glitches. So far it’s pretty good and definitely seems more stable!
