Sketch of a chile pequin plant, based on a photo. Very small and very spicy peppers, too spicy for me to want to try. The large brown leaves are fallen pecan leaves (not that it’s possible to tell from this).
That is a beautiful flower!

Chive flowers with a pink moth, an inornate pyrausta moth or something like that. From a photo as usual.
There’s some holes in the white petals where I hadn’t drawn the brown background yet and tried to draw white on a white background, and a stem that’s at the wrong angle near the middle.
I experimented a bit with pixelart.
A doodle of a tree that’s 400x300 and 7 colors.

A sketch of a cardinal from a photo, 330x300 and 9 colors.

Honestly it’s not that different from my usual doodles and sketches, since they often lack detail and color range. (What I mean is, even the pixelart is capable of more than that.) But it was fun to play with the pixelart brushes- u) Pixel Art Dithering swapping out the different ‘Squares’ patterns, and Rakurri v2’s rxd) Pixelspray and rxb) Pixelclaws, in addition to the basic linedrawing ones.
Supposedly I wanted to share my character drawings in this thread too, though I’m not sure why, whatever I’m happy to have achieved or feel like I’m making progress doesn’t seem like much when I try to share it with others. There’s always this voice asking ‘why am I posting this’ and I don’t have an answer.
Anyway, this is a (WIP) sketch/drawing of my character accidentally dozing off on the shoulder of a friend’s character. Ironically I’m only posting it because I can’t sleep. (Ignore the lower part of the image, obviously I haven’t given them hands, etc)
Why are you doing it?
Because it’s the right thing to do!
To share your recognizable progress with us?
To free yourself from it?
Because you can’t do it any other way?
Because you feel better afterward?
To make you happy?
To make us happy?
To use the forum as intended?
Because many more users should do so (myself included)!

I posted here before realizing there were more images so I deleted the post.
Honestly, sometimes I get stressed out posting and just pretend my post doesn’t exist for a while. So I’m not sure I can say it makes me happy. Interacting with people can be hard, and I’m not always sure it’s worth it to try. But I keep trying, because it’s important to have community and a place to belong, or something. I dunno.
Haven’t been drawing much lately, saw this art and decided to draw it.
Fanart of resplendent Soren from Fire Emblem Heroes:
I’ve only spent about an hour on it but I think it was productive. Didn’t bother trying to make the lines look nice, just with their position, and then blocking out the colors roughly. Then I fixed his face and hair a bit, since it’s an important part to not look weird.
Timelapse:
Wow, I really like that one!

Two quick photo sketches (~15-30min), dunno whether I’ll continue them. I’m trying not to let the desire to actually finish something for once get in the way of starting things. It’s better to have some rough sketches than not be drawing anything at all.
Cats aren’t the only larger animals (larger than a bird or squirrel or bugs) trying to get a drink from a birdbath. Unfortunately opossums aren’t as agile. This one is caught in the act of tipping the top of a birdbath onto its head (ouch?) to drink the spilled water. The white spot on the ground next to it is solid ice, evidence of a previous attempt (it was around freezing at the time).
Opossum tipping over birdbath:
Yellow-bellied sapsucker or some such woodpecker, on a lichen-covered oak trunk:
Sketched some referenced flowers to relax. Everything that was still blooming froze, so now only weeds are blooming, like this veronica and henbit. There’s lots of stuff coming up that’ll bloom in spring, though.
I can identify with that. I do it a lot on other forums but not on this one for some reason.
Maybe it’s because a total beginner can have the same level of attention as a pro here. We’re all at the same eye level, so it feels pretty comforting
At least for me!
I like this caterpillar. I also really loved your bridge artwork from this month’s challenge.
A quick sketch of a grape hyacinth flower which I didn’t finish:
Sketch fanart of Dyna Blade from Kirby Super Star:
I haven’t been doing ‘copy from artwork reference’ much lately. It just feels weird to post ‘here’s an inferior version of someone else’s work’. But I guess I’m looking at it the wrong way. If I don’t study and practice things, it’s going to be hard to come up with my own stuff. And just because it’s not an original design or composition like I wish I could get better at doesn’t mean it’s “lazy”. Telling myself it’s lazy is just going to make me want to give up. When instead I could be thinking “look at this cool bird!!”.
It IS a cool bird!
I also feel weird when drawing fanarts, but it doesn’t feel lazy, it feels forbidden ![]()
Maybe you think your drawing is inferior because of the scribbly lineart? Kirby’s lines are thick black lines. Maybe doing so on the bird would look closer to the original and better in your eyes?
Nah, it’s inferior because it’s just sketchy amateur fanart of some polished professional art, heh.
If I were trying to match the artstyle more closely, yeah, I would have to ink it, but I’m pretty bad at that. I actually thought about it, but realized the lines needed more cleanup before I could even attempt it. You can see that in the timelapse:
The wings are still a mess, so it’s still unfinished.
Timelapses can be pretty neat to watch, but I usually forget to watch other people’s or post mine.
I’m impressed how fast you are at drawing! When I draw, there’s so much back and forth and I end up with multiple sketch layers. ![]()
