Just want to share some of the process for creating/finishing a golem. I also applied this process to the other four golems.
I started with the description as well as some artworks of golems by other artists to get a general idea of what the commissioner wanted. Some features the commissioner wanted were: golems made of big chunks of rocks, held together by roots and vegetation, as well as floating eyes, no face at all, or a floating halo/orb.
Process of creating the silhouettes:
I gathered some references for copper:
The silhouettes were approved. I enlarged the silhouette for the copper golem and used HSV filter masks, set to “color”, to designate the areas of the rocks, cracks, shoulder armor tassels, copper, roots, and vegetation.
The rock/texture layer and cracks layer also functioned as a quick way to add shadows and form.
Then I added more HSV filter masks for the copper highlights, the glowing orb, and the blue light magic around the cracks.
More HSV filter masks for brighter highlights on the copper, as well as the oxidized copper on the shoulder armor.
I added 4 paint layers:
And that’s it!
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you @Sineater!
