Gray PNG`s

When image KRA formatted into PNG, the image in programs other than Krita becomes darker, and pure white in Krita becomes gray, for example, in Discord. Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

Could you show the full screenshot including the the status bar, with your .kra file opened and the png export option shown?

Hello, it does sound like a color space issue. Please post the settings that you use when you export the image as a PNG file.

  1. Color Profile Mismatch: Krita allows you to work in different color profiles, like sRGB, CMYK, Adobe RGB, Academy Color Encoding System (ACES) … When you export it to PNG, the color profile should ideally be embedded in the PNG file. If this is not done correctly, it can explain the color discrepancies when the image is viewed in other apps like discord.

  2. Target application and color profiles: I do not know which color profiles discord actually understands, but it may not fully support the color profile of your image or it may even apply some own color management settings. The embedded color profile may not be interpreted in the right way, which results in color shifts.

What can be done about it?
Check your color profile, for example in
Image > Image properties > Image color space
and maybe work in a color profile like sRGB, which seems to be widely supported on the web at the moment.

When you export you image, embed the color profile, for example with Embed sRGB profile or Embed ICC profile. You can use the option Force convert to sRGB in the case of sRGB.

I hope that this info helps you a little to track down the cause of your problem. Have a wonderful time! :four_leaf_clover: :slightly_smiling_face:

Hello, I looked in the settings for the Color space of the image, but I already have the
settings set to sRGB

Try disabling the β€˜Save as HDR Image’ option.

Thank you for showing the settings. I could reproduce it. If I export it as an HDR image, I get a grey background as well on discord. Unchecking that option solved the problem for me.

If you still have issues, try Force convert to sRGB … and I would generally embed the sRGB or color profile, for several reasons: color consistency, predictability and compatibility. :slightly_smiling_face:

It worked! Thanks a lot for the help to everyone who helped with my problem, sRGB was indeed unset. It was necessary to turn off HDR and put it on β€œForce convert to sRGB”

For me I noticed that embedding the color profile can have weird side effects when uploading images to the web. Firefox and Chrome seem to have different issues with that and some website’s pre/post-processing can mess it up too. I would recommend to only embed it, if you know the other software where you use it it, can actually handle it.
