A study of a full illustration, and finally I can use it as my desktop wallpaper. Thank you so much Krita!

Nice work! - I like the use of palette.
‘A study’ would normally imply that it’s a copy of an existing painting (like doing a master study), but I don’t think that’s what you mean? - Do you mean you’re studying or practising doing a full illustration?
Welcome to the forum!
Well, I actually used so many references including the master’s art reference(the actual piece from Artstation
), and this would also be me doing a full illustration practice. So I guess that’s what I meant by the term ‘study’.
Actually, thinking about it - ‘a study’ could also be other things such as a life study, or study of a sculpture or other object.
I’m still not sure what you’ve done with this one though - do you mean it’s based directly on an existing painting by another artist? If it’s a study of another artist’s work it would be important to reference that specifically when you post.
Bear in mind there’s an issue with copyright when doing a study from an existing image such a painting or photograph. For a painting study, I think most artists would be okay with it as long you clearly reference the original art and artist, but I would suggest just doing it privately for your own learning unless you have permission from the artist.
I used so many references from many artists, not just one particular artist. It isn’t about replicating a style it is about making good composition, how to deal with grayscale values, making a texture from unexpected brush, managing the contrast, making a good effect on the background, how to use filters, and more. Heck, I even used a golden ratio for making the curvature of the wings, which none of the artists I referenced used.
I think your conception of ‘A study’ is more inclined to ‘copy drawing’ or ‘tracing’ from one single specific artist. If that is the case, then no I would never do that.
Your picture is so beautiful I had to comment on it! You really captured the emotion of a Guardian Angel! She looks powerful enough to be a protector, but caring and sweet enough to possess that personal love that Guardian Angels have. Honestly, this image touches me so deeply I can’t find the words to express it adequately! Thank you so much for sharing it, you really have a gift!
Thx
I’m so happy it could evoke emotions.
Okay - I think I understand now!
I’ve never been into master studies myself (direct copying for purpose of study), but it has been common practice for centuries; I don’t feel there’s much issue with that as long as an artist is clear about what they’re doing.
This is your own work though - just studying other artists ways of doing things to help inform your own process.
This is such a beautiful inspirational image! The appealing use of contemporary techniques makes it easier to relate to this timeless spiritual being. Thank you and God bless!
So excited this is now featured!
