Also new video for anyone interested: Understanding Lighting to Improve your Art | Beginners Guide to Light - YouTube
this is gorgeous!! i love everything in this, its just the right amount of details! the colours make my brain happy haha. i also watched your video and liked it, youve got a good way of explaining things
Bright contrasting background and lighting on clothing and accessories, yet the face doesn’t feature as much, was that the intention?
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Yeah my main focus was more colors and lighting for this piece. I paint a lot more portrait types of pieces and I feel like I need to improve placing characters in the scenes with good lighting.
I honestly just didn’t feel like going in and doing super detailed rendering since I am trying to get out of zooming in too much as a habit.
I also wanted to improve my understanding of how colors and values correlate to each other. That’s also why I chose Guweiz since he handles highly saturated colors so well without going overboard (imo). Especially with the way light works.
This is what it looks like in greyscale if you are interested.
Hope this helps you understand a little of what I was thinking about going painting this study (:
Ah, I love it, awesome work! Yes, the lighting is definitely the star of this show!
Love the distinction between the various types of lighting. Very informative, and overall skillfully rendered piece!
Thank you!
