Help us create a video of cool features in Krita

Alright, so. We talked on IRC a bit about it. Looks like the idea is as follows:

  • the result video will be less than 3 minutes long, I believe, something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXUReniLyqw or https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steam/apps/2031447/movie480.webm?t=1542758896
  • no audio, just text
  • short clips showing features
  • no explanation how to use features, just “see? This works! See how useful!”
  • showing off all the useful hidden stuff as well as the obvious richness in brush engines etc., just showing off how feature-rich Krita is
  • I guess depending on the feature, the clip can be really short or a bit longer, for example clip showing off brushes should be quite long, maybe 10 seconds? (I do have a bad sense of time though). And others should be just long enough for the viewer to realize what they’re looking at

Hence requirements for clips:

  • very short
  • self-explanatory
  • no audio

@wolthera is that correct?
@hellozee you could put it in your topic post so everyone reading it has a good idea what it is supposed to be

If the clips are that short, I guess it’s better if whoever does the final clip puts the text over it so that it’s all the same text style?

Yes. They should be all edited, cut and text added by one person at the end.

Okay, I gave it another try.

For the assistant tools, my text suggestion: Let your brush follow straight or curved lines while being in full control of brush pressure and precision.

I also tried to capture the selection masks, but I’m afraid selections don’t really catch your eye so the video might be a bit confusing? I don’t think I can change the style of the selection outline to make it more prominent, can I? Anyway, my text suggestion would be: Save selections for later re-use

Both clips on Dropbox

You could use the mask mode instead of ants mode, it is possible to change in the bottom left corner of the Krita window.

And thanks

This video is really nice thanks.

Here is a video where I try to show off animation, using blender modes for coloring and the “Compositions” docker

Here is my attempt:

Perspective assistant in combination with brush

It is 9 seconds long. It was hard to show anything useful in less time.

Licensed CC-BY-SA.

Found a bug in the perspective tool too; when one has multiple drawing open, the assistance tool in one drawing seems to influence the brush in another drawing.

That’s a great showcase of the feature!

Wow, really nice videos,

I’ve added a version of the selection masks video where I’m using the mask mode, and a video for Gamut masks: Dropbox folder. (I’m erring on the side of making the vids a couple of seconds longer, in hopes that it will be easier to cut them down in the final edit than having too short ones.) Text suggestion: “Easily limit your palette for harmonious paintings”.

Things I could also do: Colorize Mask, Mirror Mode, Wrap Around Mode, Multi Brush Tool. I don’t want to hog everything though, so if anyone else wants to…

Considering I have a 1440p monitor - is it better to make a video in this resolution, or to lower it to 1080p, making the interface bigger, and easier to read without editing?

It’s only necessary if the thing you’re demonstrating definitely needs the interface front and centre.

I made 5 videos. All are 1080p and 30Hz. I used speed 200% to be in the range of ~10s. Hope it’s ok. Cheers

Edit: I just found out about local selections in Krita, and I think they have such a great potential, that I made a video about them too. Already on the dropbox folder above.

Since we got distracted with everyday lives I think this thread needs more inputs. How should we move forward. some of you have uploaded some videos , should we start with a script to start combining these in one video?
