Hi all. Started using Krita recently and discovered the use of the CTRL-ALT command to use the colour sampler to sample from the current layer only. But I have a problem that I haven’t found an answer for:
Say when I am using an airbrush, when I use the regular colour sampler by pressing CTRL only, it can pick up a variety of shades of colour that I have made. But when I use the ALT-CTRL version, it is only picking up one colour, no matter how dark or light the colour I am sampling is.
I have put an image below to demonstrate. The top row is the colour I am sampling, the second row is using the regular colour sampler to recreate those shades, and the bottom row is the ALT-CTRL samples. The eyedropper only picks up the base colour that I started with. Blend is at 100% in the sampler tool settings, and opacity is at 100%
I wanted to use this tool for shading when using a multiply layer, so I could only select the shading layer and not have a blend of the colours beneath.
Am I misunderstanding what this tool is used for? I feel like I’m going crazy trying to figure this out. Any help or advice would be appreciated
I assume the white part is a separate background layer which means when you sample the current layer only, with the red part, there will only ever be the information of “this pixel is red” and since the alpha channel is ignored it will always be the same shade of red.
The different shades on the screen are a result of both layers interacting and when you only sample only one of those layers the interaction isn’t picked up, it’s like only that one layer existing for that moment.
Ctrl+left-click should sample from Merged layers if that is set in the Tool Options docker.
The various Ctrl key colour sampling options are shown and defined in
Settings → Configure Krita → Canvas Input Settings → Alternate Invocation
If you make any changes in there, be sure to check that there is not a clash with any of the settings in other sections of the canvas input settings.
If you make any changes to key activated settings, make sure there are no clashes with the Keyboard Shortcuts.
