How can I create a palette from an image input?

Hi

I want to create a “palette” from a picture and use it in Krita. It would be nice if I can define the number of colors that are pulled from the image as well.

I know I can open it next to my image and color but that is not what I am looking for, I need a proper way to setup a palette of colors extracted from images so that I can make a library of them.

thanks

You can do it with this site:

http://www.cssdrive.com/imagepalette/index.php

You can upload pictures up to 1 MB size (sometimes the site accepts bigger pics) and can get palettes with up to ~50 colors, at the bottom-left you can export the created palettes as “ACO-Files”, these ACO-Files can be imported with Krita, you can import it via ‘‘Settings’’ >> ‘‘Manage Resources…’’ >> ‘‘Import Resources’’, or via the palette-docker in Krita, it has the ability to import palettes. A third way would be to copy the ACO-Files into the folder palettes in Krita’s resource-folder before you start Krita, if you do this while Krita runs, then you have to restart Krita to get access to the new created palette.

I do not understand your reply, what I am looking for is to see if this is possible in Krita purely?

There is a built-in solution, although is rather limited and as far as I know it can’t be inherited saved in the .kra file. You would need to save a layer with the extract color per example.

Here how to do it:

  • Using the Advance Color Selector Docker
  • Click on this button
Captura de tela de 2023-04-07 12-56-22
  • In the opened window click on the last tab, Colors from Image
  • Customize to your liking. (Max Patches is the number of color it will be extract)
  • Now you just need to click the :repeat: button bellow
Captura de tela de 2023-04-07 12-56-22

Hope this helps.
Maybe there is a G’MIC filter too, but I’m unaware of it.

@Daishishi this his what I was thinking of. But OP would have to keep hitting the refresh :arrows_counterclockwise: button each time the file is opened.

Unless they create a custom Palette in the Palette Docker and save it for use later, or do as I say and create a Layer with the extract desired colors. It is only a bother because creating the palette file would be a manual process.
