Welcome among the Krita-Artists, Inku! It’s great to have more Manga represented here. ![]()
Your drawing already looks great from afar, however after zooming in I think I can give some advice:
- Thanks to her special dress, the breast area becomes sort of a focus point.
And alas, the breast anatomy looks a bit off.
I do not just mean size, which is not very realistic but could be a style choice. It is the way the cleavage looks, and the right boob (from viewer’s perspective) looking bigger than the left one. I also find this hard to get right, but maybe my main advice would be to first draw her with a semi-transparent bra (probably what she wears underneath, if breasts are pushed together - and semi transparent because nipple position might show what’s wrong). Then switch to dressed version/paint over. If you did not do this already. If you did, well maybe more reference and/or tutorials needed. ![]()
- Colour: usually pure black is avoided. You can’t shade the dress if you start with pure black. So this part looks one-dimensional. (You could still have used highlights though).
- Lineart: Mostly only visible if zoomed in: Lineart looks a bit shaky. Some things that can help (assuming you have a drawing tablet, if not, get one first):
Exercise, or (quick solution, but you train less) use stabilisers (in tool options). Rotate and zoom the canvas, so the rounded shape feels easier to draw. Or just draw overlapping strokes then erase the unneeded parts. Sounds stupid at first, but is easier sometimes. Oh and of course, do a sketch before clean lineart on new layer.
Note that lineart does not have to be drawn with one size for the body, one for the outer hair one for the inner hair. No, it can make you picture better if it varies in width.
- Shading: The light source is not clear. Possibly it is coming from the viewers side and from the top - but then some parts like shading of top of her hair and right shoulder are slightly off. Also coloured lights/shades could make the picture more vivid. I see very subtle hints of the pink background colour as reflected light, but they may be too subtle.
- The way you draw the hair can be improved, like make it flow a bit more, the black star on top is a bit too emphasised. Possibly, the hair goes up a bit too high on the back part of her head (draw her head shape and you’ll see what I mean). I am not better than you here, so my advice is just too look at pictures of established artists.
Now with all that, let’s not forget the good parts of you image:
The face looks great and that goes for all parts! I could not do that!
Shoulders and the flow of the dress looks fine too.
If this was done 100 % by you, I think you have great potential.
Sorry for the wall of text. ![]()
thanks a lot, have you got any recommendations for tutorials/references which could help me?
I do have a drawing tablet but its nothing crazy its a screenless wacom, i tried stabilizer and found it a little helpful with my shaky hand.
thanks a lot again for writing on how i can improve
Haha, we use the same kind of tool then. Affordable but solid.
I’ll come back these days and see what tutorials I can link, it’s getting late here. It has been a while since I drew Manga style, so some of them were probably taken offline by now.
OK. So I got way to many tutorials, even though some links are broken. Probably not good to drop them all here.
I will try to link at least one for any topic I mentioned, but if you need more, you can always ask for what specifically.
None of these are mine, credit goes to the creating artists.
Note that Manga artists vary more in style than artists that try to imitate reality, so tutorials on one topic may show very different approaches.
Careful, anatomy and human photo reference obviously moderately nsfw!
(female) anatomy, technically nsfw even though it is about proportions/lineart:

(female) breast anatomy, technically nsfw even though it is about construction/lineart:
