Hello everyone! Let me just preface this topic by saying this is my first time posting on this website. I’ve been using Krita for over 2 years now, and it has allowed me so many new possibilities with art, I’ve grown my skills as an artist exponentially. I really love this program, and I’m grateful to everyone who makes this wonderful project possible! Keep up the good work!
The main topic at hand is in regards to something that’s been puzzling me for a long time now, I have spent a ton of time trying to figure this out myself and also tried finding answers on the web to no avail… so I thought this was a good opportunity to join this community and ask about it directly!
While drawing something with a basic circle brush, for instance line art, I often want to make the lines have a softness to them. I don’t want them to be too sharp and jagged, but I don’t want them to be too blurry and undefined either. Fortunately, Krita allows you to adjust the fade of the brush to whatever you would like, however, the length of the fade varies depending on the size of the brush, and I do not want that. Here is an example of what I mean:
In this image, there are five dots in different sizes, each repeated three times. The number underneath each dot is what the fade of the brush is set to.
In the first line, each dot has the same fade value of 85, yet the fade gets bigger as the brush gets bigger. What this means is that I can’t change the size of the brush without having an inconsistent fade, which makes things look messy.
In the second line, all the dots have the fade set to 100, meaning there is no fade. This seems to be the one way to have the brush remain consistent regardless of size, but once again, it is too sharp, and it’s not what I would like.
The third line attempts to represent what I would like to achieve, with the fade having the same length regardless of how big the brush gets. It is a rather subtle difference, so you may need to zoom in on the image to see it clearly.
Is there some way to pull this off? I’m aware that Krita has many brush options, plenty of which I am still unfamiliar with, so it would not surprise me if this is a feature somewhere and I just didn’t know about it. Thank you in advance to anyone who helps out!
