How can I make an oil paint fan brush?

Hi everyone, my name ich Marco, I’m 57 years old and a hobbyist artist since I was old enough to hold a pen or brush.
Coming from traditionelle Oil-Painting, I was always interested work in a similar fashion in digital media.
I have worked with several applications like PS, ArtRage, PaintStormStudio and Krita.
One of the things I like the most in Krita is it’s Brush Engine.
I created some brush tip’s just for the fun of it and they work just fine.
Recendly I discovered a Painter and YouTuber named Michael James Smith.
He works in Oils and I was really blown away by the incredible amount of detail in his pictures.
So, as you may guessed it already, I jumped into creating some Brushes who are mimicing his analoge Brushes, to a certain degree.
He uses the Fan-Brush quite often, sometimes at the edge of the brush sometimes just the corner of it.
I have made several attemts to create this Brush, but I could not get it right.
If you want to know what I’m talking about, watch this video (Paint Trees - The Three Step Process | Episode 190 - YouTube) I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post links here, so I put it between brackets.
If someone here could give me a hint on how to achive this kind of brush work in krita, it would be much appreciated.
Thank you very much in advance and greetings from Germany.

Hello @Marco_Krieger and welcome to the forum

It’s ok to post links here but as a new user you will be limited in how many links (and uploaded images) you can post.
As time goes by and you use the forum more, those limits will be lifted automatically.

You’re asking for help with a specific subject so I’ve changed the title and category of your topic to make it show that.

Maybe one day you can create a topic in the Resources: Brushes and Bundles category where you offer for download the oil painting fan brushes that you’ve made

Thank you very much for the warm welcome.
I will keep your advice in mind.
We will see what I can offer to the Krita Community, at this point it’s not worth sharing.

Hi @Marco_Krieger - Welcome to the forum.

I don’t have a specific answer for you but I do have a fantastic resource to share.

The Krita YouTube channel recently published a series of 4 videos to teach brush making in Krita. Here’s the link to Part 1:

Thanks for your suggestion, I will have a look into it.
I already saw some of Ramones videos and I’m pretty much positive I will find the answer to my question by following his advice.
