How do I disable Krita's save pop up on android?

Does anyone know how to disable the save pop up box on Krita Android or is that apart of the autosave, and do I need to disable it? The problem I’m running into is I’ll get this one particular pop up ranging from one at a time to 3-4 at a time, and it asks me if I want to save my work. When I accidentally click no, it doesn’t even give me an “Are you sure?” box (If it did, I wouldn’t care so much for reasons I’m about to mention.) It just deletes all previous work from the last save. I lost my whole commission I was working on the night before because of it.

Edit: The reason why this popup was occurring is because I kept accidentally pressing the back button on my Samsung tablet. The solution I found for that was to change my navigation bar from a stagnant bar with the home, back, and background apps option to swipe gestures. If you don’t want to do that, you can also use the full screen mode, but unfortunately you’ll have to turn full mode on and off to get access to all your brushes.

I think you’re misunderstanding the “do you want to save” message. If you’re seeing that message, it means you have done something to make Krita think you want to close the project you’re working on. That’s the piece you should figure out. This is not autosave (which, by the way, is a crash recovery program, it is not saving your work in your project file – autosave files are deleted once the app is closed and it determines no crash occurred).

I suspect you are hitting the back key not realizing you are about to close your project. If you say no when Krita asks if you want to save, Krita will do exactly as you’ve asked and yes, you will lose everything that you hadn’t yet saved.

There is a way to suppress some pop up messages. Go to Settings > Configure Krita > Window and uncheck show on-canvas pop up messages. This will not stop the all-important “do you want to save” message as that is critical for the user to read it and give the right response but it will stop some of the on-screen messages.

Disabling autosave will prevent Krita from restoring your work after a crash. I would never think of turning that off but you can. Go to the File Handling tab and uncheck Enable Autosaving.

I see. That actually makes sense. I draw on a samsung tablet, so it’s very possible I was accidentally clickling the back button thanks to how my navigation bar is set up. I’m going to edit in a potential solution for my post for future references. Chances are if I’ve had this problem, someone else might have it too.

You should set up a shortcut that executes the function “Save Incremental Backup”, on devices with keyboard the key F4 is preset for this, you can find the command in the menu File. You can configure this under ‘‘Settings’’ >> ‘‘Configure Krita’’ >> ‘‘Keyboard Shortcuts’’.

Furthermore, you should get into the habit to press this shortcut at least 4 times per hour¹ to create a batch of backup copies. This way you build a safety net, and you don’t lose a lot of work when you confirm the “Are You Sure” security prompt again.
Probably it’s best to set up an alarm that reminds you to use the shortcut every 10 minutes, or the interval you find right for your needs.

¹This should be done by everyone who values his work, because mishaps can happen to anyone at any time. But most people have to learn it the hard way.
