How do I select an area then delete that selected area

This is frustrating.

I just want to:

Select part of an image with the rectangle selection tool.
Then delete that part leaving only the grey and white squared background.

I am not used to using Kirta and can’t find an answer besides this one:

  • Select the Rectangular Selection Tool.
  • In the Tool bar at the top of the canvas, enable Eraser Mode.
  • Now when you make a selection and press delete, it will erase instead of filling the selection with white.

I have Eraser selected at the top of the canvas…
Is he talking about the Eraser tool?
Why isn’t it erasing my selected area when I use the eraser tool with eraser mode and press Delete?

Hello and welcome to the forum

You don’t need to enable Eraser Mode.
If you press the Delete key, the selected area will be deleted but only in the active layer.

If you still have difficulties then can you post a full screen screenshot with the layers docker visible?

Try using the ctrl-x shortcut. The delete key is mapped to the “clear” action.
