Whenever I copy and paste something, it always makes a new layer. Is there a way to paste to an already-existing layer?
You can’t do that with version 4.x but you will be able to do it with 5.0.0 using Edit → Paste into Active Layer, and you can create a keyboard shortcut for it.
The pasted content has a transform bounding box around it so you can transform it, if you want to, then press Return to finalise any transform and fix it into the layer.
