How do you color in animation?

I’ve been using Colorize Mask for most of my coloring in Krita, but I noticed that it’s not available for animation. How do most people color for animations?

It can depends on the style / rendering you want, but for simple cases, I just use a layer below the line layer.

You can use the colourise mask tool to colour lineart frames of an animated layer but it’s a complex, tedious, confusing and annoying process that involves transfering images between animated frames and non animated layers and back again - for every frame. If you ever try it then you’ll regret that you started.
If you use the Fill tool on an animated layer underneath the lineart then you can alpha lock the colour fill layer and do all sorts of brushwork on it. You can fill the different parts of the lineart on different colour fill layers if you want to get isolation for painting purposes.
