How to disable the spacebar for expanding the menus?

Hi everyone. This is the only single thing I don’t like in Krita. I’m used to change blending modes quite frequently and every time I do so I tent to press the spacebar right away to move the canvas to paint where I want. But instead of moving the canvas Krita expand the blending modes menu again.

I click somewhere thinking I’m going to paint but I choose other blending mode by accident, so I have to go the the blending modes menu again and this time remember not to press the spacebar.

Is there a way to disable the spacebar to expand menus and leave it only to move the canvas? I have tried to do it but I can’t find a way. I tried to ignore it then but it’s getting quite annoying.

Thanks for your help, cheers!

I don’t think you can change this yourself because this is the standard behavior of most drop downs in a lot of applications, depending on the UI framework used. I just checked some random other applications and space bar will always open the drop down selections of similar UI elements, if they happen to have the focus. It’s just standard behavior.

In the situation you describe, the focus is on the blending selector so pressing Space will re-open the blending mode chooser.
There are similar effects in other dockers involving multiple choice options selectors and enable/disable settings toggles.

I don’t know of any way to disable this action and it may need a code change.
I’d agree that it’s an ‘unexpected’ behaviour.

A workaround is to return focus to the canvas, such as by clicking off-canvas.
Another ‘trick’ that works is to click on the currently selected brush preset in the Brush Presets docker but that is less intuitive.

Thanks for your answers. This behavior has been quite annoying for me since the beginning, especially when I’m kind of inspired and working fast. It just breaks my rhythm and puts me off. Also, I tend to use blending modes more often when I work fast, therefore experimenting that more often too.

I don’t like to press the canvas to change the focus, I tried to… but most of the time that click actually paint a dot that I have to undo.

For now I just created new brush presets with the blending modes I need. Instead of going to the blending modes menu now I just go to the pop up palette. That has resulting quicker too, so I’m content.

Thanks again. Cheers.
