How to draw solid shapes?

Hi folks.

I select the color, then choose the rectangle tool, but it only draws an empty rectangle with a stroke of the selected color. How can I draw a solid rectangle (stroke and fill) or circle of the desired color? Right now, I have to first draw the empty rectangle, and then use the fill tool to fill it up. This is quite consuming when I have to draw many shapes.

The Tool Options docker, you can select to fill with background color, foreground color, or pattern.

Also, a side tip. If you draw a shapes on a vector layer, they are much easier to modify.
