How to make an animation with a transparent background in krita?

It tells you on the startup splash screen or you can do Help → About Krita

If you want to render a transparent background for an animated image, you need Krita 5.0 as mentioned.

The best option is to render them as WEBP or APNG (animated png)

The last option is to render them as GIF. But if you render them as GIF, you have to understand that GIF only allows for 0% transparency or 100% transparency. So you gotta be careful that the edges are not partially transparent. GIF also limits you to 255 colors if you choose transparency as transparency takes up an extra color.

You also need to make sure your FFMPEG is version 4.2+, but 4.4+ is suggested. (latest snapshot builds also qualify for 4.4+ obviously)

thank you guys, it worked, the error was in rederizacao mode, to get everything right you have to export in WebM.

exactly , I tested it and it worked , thank you very much for your help .

Nice. Also, just noticed your goal was to import it into shotcut. In that case, there is also another way via just adding a chroma filter that lets you choose which color you wish to be transparent. (Green screen as often called).

I’ve just made two .webm animations, one with transparent background and one with white background for a simple overlay test in a video editor.
Kdenlive can deal with transparency but OpenShot can’t.
These are the only two video editors that I have.
