How to use inherit alpha or clipping masks in Krita?

All about Krita clipping masks - Tutorial - YouTube I was watching this and i can do that. But now im trying to get 3 colors on a tree and i did it this morning but i flattend the layer so cant see how i did it. So it is possible but after trying to do it again for more than an hour now i thik it better to ask you how to do that?

I found out what i did wrong. Was working on separate layers for each color in the group and that did not work, but it does on 1 layer.

Well, then everything is fine.
Otherwise, you can use the Undo function to return to previous editing states. However, Krita can go back a maximum of 200 processing steps in the standard configuration.
To do this, you can either click on the corresponding toolbar button or press the key combination CTRL + Z until you reach the desired editing step.

You can set the number of possible undo-steps via ‘‘Settings’’ >> ‘‘Configure Krita’’ >> ‘‘General’’ in the tab ‘‘Miscellaneous’’ at ‘‘Undo stack size’’.

Please elaborate your question better in the title. It will help for other new users who will searching for same question.

That shouldn’t be the issue. If you want to work with clipping masks( alpha inheritance) you need to have the layers in a group and the layers on top of the layer you want to inherit the alpha from should be marked with the alpha symbol

Yes i did have them in a group . Layer with paint and one painted above, made a group and turned on alpha on both layers that worked but as soon as i put another layer on top of second one, still in the group and painted on it i saw the paint on the layer thumbnail but not on the paper.

Full screen screenshots with large Layer Docker thumbnails are very useful to let other people study and understand your situation and the problem.

Alpha inheritance works well and has done for a long time. So it’s the way you’re trying to use it and your expectations that are incorrect.
How are you trying to use it? What are your expectaions?

Alpha inheritance is basically an automatic transparency mask, that uses the alpha of a base layer to define the areas that the layers inheriting the alpha will be shown. If you are painting outside the area this base layer has paint on it will not show. You can still paint and it will show on the thumbnail but not on the canvas that’s how it behaves.

If this new layer has the alpha symbol on that’s what is happening, just disable it and the paint should show.

But if it’s not that please post a full screenshot of the program showing the layer stack
