Type of device* : Display Tablet
Brand and version of the device: Huion Kamvas 16
System** : Windows 10 64bit
Hello krita forum,
I’ve just gotten a new Huion Kamvas 16 to use, but I’m having trouble with it. Krita doesn’t seem to be properly recognizing my display tablet at times.
If i just boot up my pc and start using krita straight, everything works alright.
Switching tabs (for instance to firefox or discord) is one of the things that triggers this issue, but that isn’t the only thing. When that happens, krita also ceases to recognize my external keyboard hotkeys, like ctrl, shift and etc.
I have the latest drivers installed for the tablet, and it’s all working fine except for this. No idea what to do.
Oh, also this problem seems to only happen on krita and only restarting the computer fixes it.
Any ideas? Please help me.
EDIT: Upon better inspection I found out this glitch happens when I click on any other program’s window that isn’t krita. I can’t for instance alt+tab or simply click on my browsers icon on the toolbar that it glitches like that.
I have found a temporary fix, but it’s really inconvenient. By closing krita and restarting the driver it fixes the issue. All I need to do to mess it up is change windows. This fix works but it’s really inconvenient having to restart krita and the driver whenever I need to look at another tab.
you have to run krita after:
1- you powered up your tablet 2- you ran your tablet driver 3- you put windows projection on extend mode
if you run krita before these you have to close krita and run it again.
This happens to me with xp pen driver are closed (yeah the driver is a running app!) or me just shutting down my xp pen artist 12 when I’m not using it.
More info,
A temporary solution is closing the tablet driver, closing krita then opening the driver and krita again. It’s really inconvenient, so I need another solution.
Krita works just fine. Pressure, stylus recognition, etc. Everything as normal. The problem comes when I look at another window on my computer. It doesn’t happen immediately. After a few seconds of looking at my browser or discord and using it, the problem happens. The only way to fix it in that case is closing krita and the driver, or restarting my computer. This problem doesn’t seem to happen when Krita is the only program in use.
Here’s feedback from my tablet tester after the problem happens:
That didn’t seem to work. The only solution I’ve found is closing and opening the tablet driver. That’s really inconvenient tho.
The problem only happens when I’m using multiple programs, like a browser. Clicking away doesn’t immediately cause it, but after a few instances the glitch starts. I’ve posted an image on this thread of my tablet tester when it happens.
Does your tablet driver have something like saving profiles for different settings?
I ask this because a while back I had a similar issue with my Wacom Cintiq. Whenever I launched a drawing app, the cursor woould jump to my main monitor, and I had to restart the driver every time to be able to work. This lasted months, until I had to to a clean OS install, and the wacom driver. It worked, until I selected a settings profile.
It appeared I had a corrupt profile; when I deleted it, everything worked as it should again.
Not sure if this will help, but I thought I’d mention it.
It does, but I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, but nothing really worked. Even wnt so far as to reset the driver to is deafult settings and nothing changed, still having the same problem.
Not yet, but I highly doubt that is the problem. Downgrading might bring even more problems if corrupt profiles are an issue. Will still try it, if that doesn’t fix my problem I’m gonna do a OS reset as well.
I tried contacting support at Huion but I got no response so far.
It feels like the best temporary solution for me is restarting the driver, which is inconvenient at best. I hope formatting my computer fixes this issue
Not sure a full wipe will make much difference. I installed the drivers for the kamvas 16 on a fresh studio pc. still had the same problems from my home pc.
Ive been playing around with it again on the kamvas gt 191 and so far it is working. Only thing ive changed since yesterday is when in the huion tablet software i clicked on ‘administrator privileges’. i dubt this is a fix but will monitor it.
Oh, I always keep “admin privileges” on, to begin with I run the driver as an administrator always.
I’m also skeptical a wipe will change something, but if it doesn’t I’ve no idea what will fix it.
I’m closing this thread because I’m thinking this is a problem with the driver instead of krita. I’m gonna try contacting huion for help. Wish me luck.
I also use Kamvas 16 regularly. When that glitch happen, are the buttons on the tablet working for other programs? e.g. try scrolling websites using touch bar on your tablet. If it also doesn’t work, problem lies on the driver or the OS. Check whether HuionTablet.exe actually running in the background.
If it works, then it’s a special case for Krita, I believe. Have you tried to switch the tablet input API (also in Configure Krita->Tablet Settings)? e.g. if existing method is using Windows Ink, try changing it to Wintab, and vice versa. Personally I use Wintab. Note that I’m not the developer, just another happy user who is also using kamvas.
I’ve tried changing the input API to Win 8+, that doesn’t seem to change the issue however. In fact it brings extra problems, when I do that the side buttons from the stylus stop working with Krita.
My issue seems to be with the driver or my own OS. I can’t find out which one of them is the problem however.
I tried that, it seemed to work, but when I alt+tab’ed or simply changed windows the problem reapeared.
Plus, it brought an extra problem: the buttons on my Stylus (which I’ve mapped to Mid click and right click) stopped working altogether. =(
The only reason I didn’t close this topic is that somebody might find it useful or might have something to say, but I think that perhaps this forum isn’t the place for me to search for the solution
