Huion on Linux MINT - How to map bottom stylus button to ERASER

Hi,

I’m using Linux Mint, and the only otopions i have when i want to configure my pen buttons are those :

  • List item Mouse click (Right / Left / Middle)

  • List item Scroll (Up / Down / Left / Right)

  • List item Side buttons (Previous / Next)

As i cannot directly bind a keyboard key (E for eraser), i need to bind middle button (as it’s only use to move the painting area).

So what i want to do is to keep middle mouse ubtton binded onto the inferior button of the pen, and then go into Krita and bind middle mouse to Eraser.

But we cannot directly bind mouse buttons as a shortcut.

So i’ve seen that there is another tab for shrotcut configuraiton, and in Canvas Input Settings, i’ve seen that middle mouse button is accessible, but i didn’t understood anything about this tab.

Can someone help me ?

(I’ve only found the codumentaiton for Krita 5.0 but nothing for 4.4.8…

For the keyboard shortcuts, you can’t use the Middle-Mouse for anything.

For the Canvas Input Settings, you can do many things but you can’t activate Eraser Mode or select a particular brush preset.

With some graphics tablets, you can assign a stylus button to the ‘Eraser’, though I don’t know if this is a toggle action or a ‘keep pressed to activate’ action.
If you can do that with your Huion tablet, that causes the stylus to be detected as an ‘Eraser tip’ but it is treated as a separate/alternate stylus inside krita that can be used to select any brush preset (including an eraser preset) for future use in that session.
So look at the options for stylus button mapping in the Huion tablet controls.

Your stylus graphic is drawn with what looks like an ‘eraser tip’ at the upper end of it.
Does that work as an eraser/alternate stylus tip in krita?

Ok that’s really unfortunate…

No unfortunately :stuck_out_tongue: The pen representation you see in the image is just a generic one, but my pen is not like that at all

I think there is actually a way for me through the command line to map some stylus button to somethign else, thanx for the reminder !

This looks promising?:

Nice ! This is my pen yes !

But as i’m on Linux Mint, I don’t have a software as in Windows unfortunately…

Is th screen you took screenshotted on Windows or on Linux Mint ?

That image is from the Huion H950P Windows user manual.
There are people on the forum who know about Huion on Linux and they may be able to give advice about changing the stylus button configuration, by using the command line or whatever method.

I suggest that you change the title of your topic to say “Huion on Linux - change stylus button setting” or something like that.

A simple alternative would be to use the ‘?’ key to switch to the previous brush preset. This would let you change to any eraser preset you wanted and then back to a drawing preset, provided you first use that eraser preset and then use a drawing preset, to get them registered as ‘current preset’ and ‘previous preset’.

Hello ! You manage to work on Linux with a Huion ??? Excuse me for my bad english (i’m french), and it is not really the topic here, but I broke my hard drive, and I get Linux after that.
But it was impossible to use my Huion (huion gt-191 V2) on Linux, I try a lot of things, but I can’t install drivers for that :frowning:
How did you do that ??? Can you tell me ? I thought I have to pay for another brand (XP-PEN) who is compatible with Linux. If you say it’s possible to install my Huion on Linux, it will be wonderfull

 Hello and welcome to the Forum @Shamisen!

You could have a look at the OpenTabletDriver project and the DIGImend project, furthermore this Video about installing the DIGImend driver for Huion on Linux might be helpful for you.
Maybe this description of the setup Huion Q11 v2 tablet on Linux will also help you.
Other than that, I can only link you to a few topics in and outside the forum and hope you enjoy reading them.

And at the end a universal description to assign the shortcut keys via terminal I found on the MX-Forum.

I hope you find the tip here that fits your problem, with the drivers of OpenTablet and DIGImend most tablets can be persuaded to cooperate, I keep my fingers crossed that it works.
And if you can’t get your tablet installed, please open a new topic with a meaningful title and describe your problem, specifying operating system, tablet manufacturer and version and if possible also, at least briefly, describe what you have already tried. With a little luck, you will find someone who can help you.

And regarding your English problems, well I could understand you, your English is fine, but you could, if you are ever unsure, translate and correct or adapt your texts for checking purposes with DeepL.

So, and now I have to go to bed, it is very early in the morning. :sleeping_bed:

Edit: Corrected a little error.

I run Krita on Mint 20.2. Decided a year ago to purchase an Xp-Pen tablet as it had tilt and a linux driver. Unfortunately the linux driver supplied by the manufacturer had to run in elevated mode and did NOT support tilt. I contacted the manufacturer and got a “thanks for your query” reply.

I sold the Xp-Pen tablet and went back to Wacom.

Thank you for your answers ! It’s good to know that XP Pen is not perfect on Linux Mint. My Huion works but it’s my graphic board who have some issues. I think the problem is not my tablet but my graphic board… My computer is good (SSD, 12Go RAM), but it’s laging (I brought it at the doctor last friday). I hope that will be fixed soon !
Thank you !
