EDIT @AhabGreybeard @bubbastien
Hello!
Sorry i Was asleep!
Anyways thank you so much for your help! I have tried disabling the antivirus but to no avail…
I Will probably have to reinstall the whole ffmpeg!
The reason I suggested running as admin is because it should alleviate any problems with file read and write permissions. You’re right, it shouldn’t be necessary, but it shouldn’t be necessary for ffmpeg to be in my downloads folder to work, I have full administrator permissions for every directory on this box, and yet, it won’t run from some directories
@bubbastien Do you use Windows 11 as well? I’m using Windows 10.
I leave ffmpeg in Downloads for convenience. I used to put it in it’s own folder somewhere but I got fed up with copying it over so I leave it in Downloads now.
I have to go now.
We’ve established that there is a problem with folder access permissions so I suggest that you follow the advice from @bubbastien.
This may be a Windows 11 thing or it may be the particular setup of your computer.
This box runs windows 10 pro 21H2 and I have no problem rendering to my desktop, or any other folder I’ve used. But other strangeness still goes on.
I can point to ffmpeg in the root directory and now krita will accept it as valid, where it didn’t when I first installed ffmpeg there. I can then render an animation with it, but I can’t export a recording, it fails with a generic error message when I try. Switching to my ffmpeg install in downloads solves the problem.
I’ll look into ffmpeg and see if there are any reported permissions issues running in windows 10 and 11 later tonight. I’ll post back if I come across anything helpful
Also, if I’m feeling ambitious, I may try putting windows 11 on my laptop and running krita there to see how it works exporting and rendering.
I’ve been digging around on the web without much success and got to thinking, do you have antivirus software running?
If you do, disable it and try the render again. You may also want to try disabling windows security, I think it turns back on automatically after a few minutes.
I’m installing windows 11 on my laptop just to see what krita and ffmpeg do on there
I just installed windows 11 on this old laptop, installed krita and ffmpeg, and rendered your sample animation to the desktop without issue. I also created a recording and exported that to the desktop as an mp4, again, no problem with the render.
This is an old refurbed dell I3, everything runs pretty smooth on this, I am surprised
@bubbastien Put Linux on it I’d suggest Linux Mint if you’re not used to Linux and I’d suggest the MATE desktop if you’re used to Windows.
@_Galaxia I think you should be able to post fresh replies now. The limit is because you’re a new users. That and other limits will be lifted as you use the forum more and time passes.
There is something about your Windows 11 installation on your laptop that is preventing ffmpeg from creating files.
Maybe it’s antivirus that you have installed. Maybe it’s some other system level ‘security’ mechanism.
ffmpeg hasn’t been ‘installed’ in the true sense of that word. It just sits there waiting to be used.
However, it may be that ffmpeg version 6.0 from Gyan is too new to be recognised as ‘safe’ by whatever paranoid security measure is in place.
I may just do that
That thing has always been painfully slow in windows, even in win7, it took me 90 minutes to install 11 from a thumb drive on to that thing. Who knows, maybe it will be light weight enough to make that less painfull to use
