I have a question: should I get the 5.0 beta? What new stuff does it bring?

Yeah, the question is already said here. I don’t really use beta versions, so I’m going to ask here. Another question I have which couldn’t be put in the title is what features are removed and what bugs there are.

I’m waiting on the release.

I have been using the beta for months, so far haven’t found any reason to go back to 4.4.8. at first got some problems with some brush preset imports losing the brush tip (specifically fizzflower brushes) but i was able to fix it manually.

Also in my eyes Krita 5 is worth a look, but you should make some preparations.
Therefore, I ask you to make sure to back up your settings files and your resource folder before installing Krita 5 beta versions, it probably would be best to read @tiar’s hints on backing up this data >> Before you start (how to back up things).
A backup is a good way to don’t let something unexpectedly go wrong without having a cure in background and turn your test into a negative experience, that would be a pity.
For testing, I recommend using the portable versions (the ZIP versions on Windows, AppImages on Linux, for Mac’s I don’t know if that is a portable Version sorry). This is the direct download link to the current Beta 5 for Windows, and this one is the AppImage-Link.
That is all.

5 really is different from 4.x. There are very valuable comments already given to you about the release notes and which files to back up before installing a beta so I won’t repeat that info… but I’ll add that I think it’s worth the effort.

I’ve installed beta 5 on macOS. It’s clumsy in a few places but I haven’t had any fatalities yet. It’s a beta and I expect it run like a beta. I expect some of the sticky bits will be fixed prior to the release of 5.0.0. At the same time I can tell you the Krita port to macOS has never been lovely. Bottom line for me is I can paint with it, it will improve and 5.0.0 isn’t far away. For that matter, I’ll probably wait for 5.0.1 to be released. It will be a bug fix. The bottom bottom line is every OS and software application on the planet is in beta. Evolution is the mother of the beta process, ask T Rex.
