Ive been trying to apply what ive learned from proko (watch my previous post) and i just cant, i keep messing up and i cant udnerstand how to replicate style and how to apply the rest of the details
this is the final product, idk what im doing wrong looks bad and not the same as ref like i cant pin down the style and how to construct a drawing event ho im an idiot who has been grinding like crazy no results
Well, you got the just of it down pretty well.
I watch your video and i think the way you can make his head look more like the reference is just using the liquify brush and make it more ovel and less round…
For example, in the reference the characters head is tilted up and slightly shifted to the left. This changes how the face would normally look making it longer than if it was a straight on point of view.
You could make the neck a little longer to indicate how his head it tilted up and back. So you just need to liquify the face a little and it should look more like your reference!
A tip to help you is, draw a guide over the reference. So using the Loomis method draw were the guide lines would show up on the actual reference, then try draw the face again… It might help instead of just drawing it straight like how you did, it helps visualize where the guides will actually be on the reference face. If you understand what I’m trying to get at?
I think you did a pretty good job! Don’t be to hard on yourself, results will show up and you need to be kind to yourself! What you drew is really good, and art takes lots of practice, you already have a good understanding i think, now all you have to do is practice even if its just simple head drawings every now and then
@NunoTheDudeYT
I watched your video and your drawing.Am not an expert but i can see there is a few problems.
Your biggest problem is impatience.
You talk with the desire of drawing like someone very experimented after doing one proko tuto. Even someone god blessed talented will fail if he doesn’t train his brain, his perception his muscle… ect..
It will take years to master your model and reach your goal. That is normal.
And I can see your impatience in your drawing: look at the lines under the neck the artist you mentioned do a very good line work. And you reproduce it with doodling not respecting the lines. The distance the flow the width of the lines you do not care of it because your eyes are not experimented yet.
Your foundation seems weak. Your circles are not perfect your shapes are not perfect. Your lines are weaving.
Even if today there is many many way to solve this with computers for the moment your muscles are weak. Keep training. And don’t force on your pen you need to hold it very smoothly.
The shape of the artist you mentioned are extremely harmonic because either he use computer to do it or either he has very perfect shapes. Don’t forget beauty is math. Perfect geometry= harmony. The artist you present i bet he used 3d models to learn shapes.
Stop imitating and start composing yourself. Making errors instead of copying others trying to reach not your art. Making errors can lead to awesome and unique style that can destroy everyone on your path
learn how to build your own brush. If you don’t master your tool you limit your possibility.
am not an expert but believe me those are the best advice i received to progress
oh yeah i should try this, i usually avoid doing anything by tracing because in my brain it feels like cheating and i need to avoid copying refs as much as i can, but ill ned to try next time and swallow my pride
yeah, patience is rigth, sadly i dont have much time id explain why but mods will just remove because the reaosn is dark, anwyways ure rigth on this, i need it.
i try so hard to make good circles, i can do this easy with paper, im much better with paper but in digital i just cant do it, i hate it, ive heard cuz its feedback and digital is so smooth but either way no matter how much i try,how many techs i use like wrist drawing or arm drawing i cant do it, idk why perhaps my tablet is just bad.
so for immitating, my issue is that i tried using refs and tried to draw using imagination, but i just cant do it, people say cuz i dont understand the ref or the shape but ive gone to basics and i cant understand it further i can only draw by immitating and redrawing im embarssing and a shame.
not sure how to do this, ive been using basics or other stuff i see online.
thanks for your comment, i am very confused tho ive tried many things and agree with ur points, sadly i cant seem to make it work, i am believeing maybe i just dont have what it takes, either way ive tried allot and yet i cant, ive even tried giving up on art but my brain keeps pestering me
It’s absolutely impatience. I know, because I’m also impatient and prone to drawing sloppily
On top of studying and gaining knowledge, you need a lot of practice connected with introspection. And a lot is not a few hours, or days, more like months and years of deliberate practice.
If you see an artist draw a few loose lines and then draw almost perfect lineart in the second pass, it means they have years and years of experience. Their observation and an eye for measurement is like level 100 while for people who are still learning it’s level 10.
Before you can see proportion mistakes, you need to actually measure things. Relations of lengths, angles, negative space, etc. Also if you’re doing a study (effectively, a copy), then overlay the original on top of your sketch to see how far off you are. Try to understand what happened that led you to drawing these incorrect lines, and see if you could avoid that next time.
If you’re frustrated and thinking that copying something side by side should be easy, then think again, it’s NOT easy. There’s nothing wrong with you, it is just hard.
I was thinking about your answer and something you said in the video. You dream is to make your own manga right?
So i guess you have a story? Or an idea?
And for whatever dark reason you don’t have a lot of time.
So if you take those two infos then maybe you should just stop putting the bar that high. Because you are discouraging yourself. For no reason.
If you want to make a manga stop overthinking and do it with the skill you have and the time you have.
Maybe it will not be as others mangaka but at least you can do something you enjoy to do (instead of pressuring yourself) and work on you own world. Look at the comic call Bone by jeff smith. It is classified by a lot of readers as one of the best comics and look at the drawing. It does not need to be complex you know…
So maybe you should just start drawing your manga with the skill you have in the most simple way possible. It will also be a great exercise to progress. And stop comparing yourself with others.
But the most important. Don’t stop.
I’m going to give you a real story once i went to sign a comic i was not even interested into it i was just passing by and the guy was there so i took a book and make the queue once i was front of him he start drawing. I was watching him and i asked how did you learn how to draw that good?
and he said.
I just never stopped.
For long time i though this guy was an idiot now that am into drawing i totally get it. He was right.
Hello, Uhm, I’m watching Proko too. But you are making the face wrong. The reference pic is looking a little bit high, and the eyes is looking down (Just like watching how pathetic the viewers are). You should make the eyes more narrow ( because it’s the perspective, you are looking him from below). Enjoy your work, you did it great
Btw, you are doing it wrong by applying real face structure to an anime character. Usually, the anime characters have different facial structure to real human. You can consider finding other guides, which about how to draw anime face :v It’ll be much easier. Try again, good luck :3
yeah that’s true, i have no idea how the hell id apply this, art is such a pain i wonder why i keep doing it lol, guess need more tutorials, maybe if i throw s+++ at the wall it eventually sticks…
I watched Pikat. I mean, there is a quote that I’ll never forget. The fun before fundamental. Before you learn the basics, you need to find out what are you following :v What is your passion, what is your motivation. And I think you will soon improve it.If you feel tired or confused, just take a break
