I browse pinterest for reference. But boy, i haven’t found one that fits.
I think animators had the right idea installing a mirror next to their desks
Then you can quickly pose for yourself.
i’m entertaining the idea of buying webcam . .ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ
Might be a good idea too! Will definitely take less room and… maybe avoid the rest of the family giving you a strange look ![]()
Actually bought a mirror and a smartphone with okay-ish camera for this exact reason. Never able to find the exact pose I want on internet, either have to combine multiple reference images, or use stiff 3D pose app. Unfortunately I can’t do most of the cool pose I want for my illustration lol
, bad back and knees.
My solution currently to search for old pose magazine, try searching for the one they use for manga. Pinterest should have 1-2 pages pops up if you search for pose reference magz, sometimes the comment in the post mention the magazine name.
for real

This happened a lot when looking for particular hand gesture. There are so many time i need to photograph my own hands for reference.
Yeah lots of time we need to be “creative” since rarely there’s 1 ref that fit the idea. Like when the pose ref is right but not in the right angle, or pose is right but different body type. Had to ask a female friend to take a photo of her hands once to help me with work, lol.
I think I can recommend this resource. Usually the animators are the people to go-to for solid foundational drawing:
In their booth store they have books with photo references. I haven’t bought one of those but flipping through the preview it looked very useful.
I did buy the correction books for characters and layouts (I think highlighting the mistake is a great way to learn) as well as the animation basics primer (seems super basic but actually has a lot of critical tips).
Too bad i have no means of doing international transaction
