Hi, I have pasted a picture into Krita and used the Filter/Color to Alpha to remove the white background. The problem is that now the picture itself is semi transparent even when the layer is at 100 % opacity. I’ve tried to add a transparency mask but I can only paint in black to reduce the opacity, and when the transparency mask is white, the image stays semi transparent. Is there a way to make the image completely opaque even where it is grey?
I guess you really need to share the image, it’s a bit hard to figure out what’s up without it. Preferably both the original one, and the .kra file.
Use Filter -> Adjust -> Adjustment Curves, switch to Alpha and move the upper point towards the left.
Easier way would be to duplicate the layer multiple times and merge.
Also when you use the Color to Alpha filter, you can reduce “Treshold”, it should then treat the grey values with more care.
I think something similar has already happened to me, so I’ll explain what I do:
(be patient with my English: D)
I duplicate this layer with opacity many times and I emerge all of them. For example: If you have a gray with 60% opacity when merging all layers you will have a gray 100% opaque.
(60% + 60% + 60% + … in time it will be 100%).
If you have a layer with 60% opacity and you want to paint over it and get 100% opacity as a result of the brush strokes, you can do this:
Merge this layer with 60% opacity over a new standard paint layer (with 100%). Okay, you will keep the opacity of before, but you will have a 100% opaque layer.
Another way to do this (there are so many ways) is to use the Similar Colour Selection Tool with a low Fuzziness value and click on the white background, which should select only those pixels of that particular shade of white.
Then you can delete them.
If your ‘foreground’ object happens to have that shade of white in it, you can get clever with a manually painted original-recovery mask after the event.
I understand but in that case, merging the layers makes the grey colors much darker. The same happens with the method that tiar suggested.
I don’t seem to be allowed to attach .kra files
Thanks everyone.
what if you emerge this layer over a ‘painting’ (filled area) made with the gray you want?
(Well, as already said, the ideal would be to see an image, as we are conjecturing here)
You can’t upload .kra files to the forum but you can post a link to a file sharing/download service, of which there are many available.
