Would it be possible to when you create a new document to select infinite size document in which all the rulers and other constraints of size would be disabled? Then maybe have a little tool to make a square to select the area you want to render out or it would render everything inside with no margins.
No, that is not possible. Lukas Tvrdy tried that once, during one of his summer of code projects, but Krita is too dependent on images having bounds. MyPaint was designed from the ground up to have an infinite canvas – Krita was designed from the ground up to be a traditional painting application.
I think I heard someone said that if could be possible but had constrictions.
I thought if those would be disabled on e new document to be like that it maybe could.
But if it really is not possible that is abit unfortunate then sighs
Well at least there was a shot given for it. thank you for it.
I did not know MyPaint had a infinite canvas I only used it in Mischief a while back. I wanted to make a single document with sketch work instead of a bunch of single files for each idea separate of each other making it a bit tiresome to manage as then I cant draw different concept characters together without issues in naming conventions to file them afterwards. They are only meant as trash drawings and not actually work to pursue to the end yet. I will take a look into MyPaint too, to see how that goes there and make a decision what to use. Once I hit on something I like I will port them inside krita to work properly.
If I remember correctly, Mischief not only had an infinite canvas, but also infinite zoom, which was probably why The Foundry bought it, then put the people who made MwM on other projects, which made them leave, leaving MwM in limbo.
yes it was because of that it was advertised as they next step in painting and i still think it has its feet on it. they had ideas to make it relate to their other programs which I thought it would be genius in order to correct and paint stuff on any scale when you needed to intervene by hand on projected 3d card on a comp. But then I never heard of anything about I think it was a waste letting it die like that.
And yes I started to lookup programs again recently to double check on certain things and I noticed mischief is literally on the gutter, I found a “free version” lost in those download sites of lost or too old software to have a page of their own. Sketchbook pro is also in the gutter to surprisingly. The Foundry I know they kinda only make new programs just to integrate into nuke after but autodesk to have a free program now like that, the world is going crazy, not even a mailing list for spam or account request to download.
if they had made more features on mischief I would probably be there, I am a big fan of vector work.
I kinda discovered Krita after when my brother told me about this, only then I started to see what was up with the Linux side of things.
I asked about this earlier in the year as it’s one feature I like in MyPaint when you’re just free sketching.
Following that discussion I did some experimenting and found I could mimic the effect to a degree by setting up a minimal interface, creating a canvas with a high pixel count (e.g. A3 600dpi) and zooming in.
The saved file size depends on the content rather than the pixel dimensions, so can still be small if you have a few sketches in the middle of the big canvas.
to me the UI is not the issue, I acctualy perfer to see the classic menu set to see what I am doing and where I am in the stack too. minimalist UIs do not attract me that much unless the work flow allows for it to be allowed. More options demands bigger UIs, but less options makes a flimsy program… What I did in krita is a custom keyboard layout in krita to ignore most of the menus and buttons because shortcuts are really the best route to ignore a truck load of buttons on the screen (and yes I memorize all keyboard layouts in every program I use and I recomend everyone to do the same) but there are stuff you still cant do without menus. So I am not really going that route myself.
still needs a update but this is my custom setup Krita.
Strangely the only program I made my own Keyboard layout.
I was just aiming for the infinite canvas thing because I wanted to work on new characters and have all the sketches together really. much better to have a single file to show and tell.
I was testing mypaint and mischief and I think I am more inclined for mischief on my side even thought it was clearly not made for big screens if you use the paper backgrounds that are like 100 pixels short.
considering it is vector and all that it might be perfect for white boarding also, which is something I have been looking for a while now and it is quite hard to find a good one.
but mypaint is alot better than I thought I think I ranked it really low compared to others because I did not find the options menu all the other times. I found the menu yesterday and it looks more interesting now I will keep looking into it.
