Sorry for the question, but what does hearts have to do with badges for donations? Maybe I have not understood something.
I think if you don’t want people to feel unfair with low budget, we could make a badge that you get when you have donated a total of 20 dollars as an example. It doesn’t matter if it’s several monthly donations or single donations. And there is only one donation badge, which is then the same for all. Would be such easier to manage it for the admins, because you only need to check the donations once per user, and not after every change of monthly substribtion. Of course this badge are only obtainable if the user request it.

I only requested gaining hearts as a mechanic because maybe some people don’t have much money, or don’t use sources such as PayPal, Venmo, etc.
I think this would be a good solution for free-to-use people that aren’t able to contribute to the Krita company.
Also, I would really want you guys to use the icons I made, if you allow that
Raghukamath already said he would see if the default Discourse icons can be shown next to your username. I think that’s the best you can hope for.
I do like your designs though.
And also, Varg is right in that the hearts issue doesn’t really belong in this thread.
Oh, alright. Maybe I was a bit too much on the “hearts” thing.
At least we’re doing something about this
