Is there a function to quickly create a regular polygon?

No there is no way to make a precise polygon like pentagon or hexagon or any other having equal sides, with the shape drawing tool. You can make irregular polygon with the polygon tool.
Check if this request is already filed as a bug report and if not we can propose this.
For now as a workaround I would suggest using multi brush tool to make it.

Using the MultiBrush tool, I was able to create a regular polygon.

As a workaround you can do those shapes in inkscape and import them in and then edit them in your canvas.

As another workaround, you can make a vector library of ‘standard polygons’ and drag them from the Vector Libraries docker onto the canvas and resize them as needed.
You can make a vector library using Inkscape or you can do some sneaky .svg editing of existing vector libraries to make anything you like.
