Is there any way to switch to another layer on the fly?

Is there any fast way to switch to another layer on the fly (I mean, without go to layer palet and choose layer you want)?
For exemple, in photoshop if you are painting (with brush tool) in one layer if you hold ctrl and click at a painted area wich is at another layer, you jump to that layer.

Much appreciated!!! I miss this thing and it make me nuts!!

“R” doesn’t seem to work for me in 5.1. What is the command in the Shortcut list, so that I can assign my own shortcut to it?

Works here. You need to keep the r pressed and then click on actual colored pixels to select the layer. The setting is in Settings/Canvas Input/Seelect Layer.

Can it only choose the topmost layer? How do I choose the background layer that is covered by special effects?

No, you can select any layer that has exposed pixels. If another layer covers those pixels, you cannot select the layer.

You can lock layers so that they are cannot be picked this way. It’s handy for low transparency or overlay ones.

Apart from the R click in 5.0 there is a search bar CTRL + Enter and if you know the name of the layer you can just search for it and switch to it.

Hi

I think you’re using the photoshop compatible shortcut configuration, it might be the reason why R doesn’t work I think

That’s not it. I reset the keyboard shortcuts before I tried. But when I hit R the cursor doesn’t change and nothing happens to the layer selection.

It seems as if I also have to change the Canvas Input Settings (as mentioned above). But when I set the Input to “Right Mouse”, the select layer icon is there all the time and I can’t use my brush any more. This is very confusing.

[EDIT] I got it. I need to set the “modifier” to “R” and the Input to “Right Mouse”.

I just tried something and it almost works like in PS now.

Go to Settings->Canvas Input Settings. Then go down to “Select Layer”. There double-click on the “Input” field next to “Mouse Button”. In the “Mouse Button” field configure the “Right Mouse” button and in the “Modifier” configure the “CTRL” key.

The only issue now is, that is always selects the top pixel layer. But that isn’t always useful. For example when I have Overlay or Multiply Layers on top of a drawing, with this method I can never select the drawing. That’s where the popup in PS comes in handy. Maybe something that could be added to Krita in the future.
